and finally Hollywood…
February 9, 2009
In his final glimpse in to some of the most glamorous locations in the world, Piers visits the home of the entertainment industry, Hollywood. Piers investigates what it really takes to make it in the showbiz capital of the world, where the box office made over $9.5 million in 2007 alone, and meets some of the British success stories who’ve settled there. Currently, Americans love UK actors so much that one in three of their pilots features a Brit, however it’s not so easy for all aspiring actors, and Piers also meets some actors who lift the lid on the dark side of Hollywood and are still struggling after years of trying to make it big.
Piers’ fellow judge on America’s Got Talent, David Hasselhoff says he thinks the Americans like Piers’ honesty on the show.
He says: “I think you guys are like breeding rats…there’s more and more of you everywhere I turn around…people are so taken aback with your rudeness and the fact that you are so direct, you are so, ‘Oh, my God! What’s he going to say next?’”
In the programme Sharon Osbourne invites Piers in to her hillside mansion where she explains that looking good is essential in Hollywood and reveals to Piers that she’s spent around $120,000 on plastic surgery. He also meets British couple Ioan Gruffudd and Alice Evans who, despite having starred in a string of hit movies between them, tell Piers that life is still tough for actors in Hollywood. Ioan reveals that he had to wait seven years before getting an acting job in America because the competition is so tough. He says he had to learn to show off about himself to get noticed. “It’s 100 times harder, 100 times harder. I think there are 500,000 actors in Los Angeles. Unless you’ve been in a huge Hollywood blockbuster you’re not on that top ten, top 20 list, so you’ve just got to start again,” laments Alice.
After spending time in Hollywood and LA, Piers says he feels proud that British talent is doing so well. “It’s great to see Brits doing so well out here and maybe back home it’s time to learn from their example and celebrate our stars many talents and allow them to be whatever they want to be.”

Really sad this is the last of the series. It has been wonderfully entertaining and Piers has given it a little something special that another presenter wouldn’t have. I have loved the show, and hope there will be a follow up series.
