Reflections on the 3rd Semi Final
May 27, 2009
What a night!
Drama, suspense, tears, hilarity…it had everything you could possibly wish for from a TV show.
Which probably explains why the ratings have been soaring to over 15.4 million viewers - the highest figures on British television for six years.
I loved last night’s show even more than the first two semi-finals.
Sitting in Simon’s sumptuous dressing room (he’s suddenly moved to a different floor at Fountain Studios from Amanda and I, further evidence that he now thinks he’s Emperor Nero) before it started, we all agreed that the line-up was one of the weirdest we’ve ever had.
‘This could be a total disaster,’ sighed Simon.
‘Or brilliantly funny,’ I replied.
And the moment Kaye the human saxophone player began ‘playing’, Simon and I looked at each other and laughed, both thinking we were right!
I loved that act, because it was a) totally original b) incredibly funny and c) guaranteed to really annoy Mr Cowell.
But even he couldn’t come close to the brilliant Stavros Flatley for sheer comedic entertainment value.
The father-and-son duo are such lovely people. I met the dad backstage afterwards, and he was almost in tears of joy.
‘I’m so happy we made the final,’ he said.’ I don’t care what happens now, we’re there!’
They epitomise Britain’s Got Talent as far as I’m concerned.
They don’t care about their weight, looks, or image. They just want to have a laugh, and make everyone else laugh. And everyone I know loves them.
Can they win on Saturday? Well, it would be very amusing if they did.
I’d pay £1 million to see the Queen’s face when they run out in their Cypriot tunics at the Royal Variety Show.
But I think Shaheen has a better chance. That boy has got an unbelievably powerful voice for a 12-year-old. There were moments in his performance last night when he sounded exactly like a young Michael Jackson. With the right song, he could give Susan Boyle and the two brilliant dance groups a real run for their money.
But there are still two semi-finals left, and lots of potential winners like Hollie and Aidan to come yet.
This is now officially the biggest talent show on the planet, and whoever does eventually win is going to a global superstar.
Even Simon is slightly shocked by how successful this series has been.
‘It’s incredible!’ he said after last night’s show finished. ‘It’s like the whole world is watching. This is the show I love doing most of all.’

I agree that this has been getting better and better,
I agree with you Pearce that DJ Talent could have a record, though it might only a one hit wonder and a novelty record, at least he will be able to say he got in the charts, besides we have had worse. Though I don’t think he should be on the royal preformance. As to the others that have got through so far it is going to be tough call to say who is going to win. There again it might be nice for an underdog to go through as this is once in a lifetime chance for them. As the others have got talent in various parts of the industry and with the right guidence will flourish, maybe make a new show, bring back the viarety shows like sunday night at the palladium, get some real entertainment back on tv.

Poor Susan Boyle, you have certainly used her and shown yourself up Piers for just how sincere your “friendship” really is I said time will tell just how much of a “friend you really were”.
You had to go overboard and OVER PRAISE that boy for the sake of your ratings saying he was the best singer in the semi finals after all the flattery and praise you lavished on Susan Boyle ofcourse she felt betrayed. With all the stress of your stupid talent show heaped on her. What are you trying to do to her break her before the big night?
Will that get more ratings more people to view just to see her break down?
You may not have any feelings but she poor innocent felt she could trust your support.
I hope this report is untrue, otherwise you’ve had it mate.

It would be interesting to know what criteria you (the judges, or powers that be) used to choose who appeared in the semi-finals.
Judging by who you left in, and who you left out, I can only assume the choice was ruthlessly based on who would get the most viewers - even if only from ghoulish spectatcle or controversy.

A French Brit says
Hi,
I must say I am very impressed by the quality of BGT. I happen to have been brought up by a British mother but have always lived in France. I’ve always considered myself more British than French, but have never found British TV programs to come up to my expectations, they rarely make me feel proud. And I normally can’t stand reality shows. I thought I was actually allergic to them until I came across Susan Boyle, like so many people around the world.
Since then, thanks to her, you chaps have got me addicted. Though I can’t see the programs live, I don’t miss one of the videos available online and want to congratulate everyone involved and of course you 3, the judges, for your emotional and full commitment and involvement in the show.
Having studied journalism myself, and the power of the media and Internet, I have a relatively good idea about the way things can be staged, faked and prepared to get a precise reaction from the audience. Even though your various roles and characters are emphasized, they don’t seem to be entirely acted, or if they are so, the 3 of you are tremendous actors (which might be the case).
But here, you have really found a great bunch of talented people, that is not fake. So thanks for the pleasure you bring people, thanks for the excitement, thanks for the laughs. I won’t ever try an act on your show, as I don’t live in Britain, but you sure do give a chance to everyone, with every sort of talent and abilities, and I don’t know of any equivalent. It gives people not only fun and excitement, but I think it brings hope that everyone can get there, beautiful or not, and show people what they are capable of. For some strange reason it’s given me a boost to be proud of my own talents and show them (not through the program but in my own life). Thanks for that !
Keep up the great work and keep counterbalancing Simon, your trio with Amanda makes your judgments great and gives a chance to talent and variety.
Best regards,
A.T

I was there last night. Sitting in the front row to the right of Piers. Loved the show, so please Stavros Flatley went through, the show needed some light entertainment in the final. I would have liked to see MD Dance Group join them, they were amazing.
I had a fantastic night, the atmosphere was electric. Wish I was at the finals.

I’ve been loving watching. Everyday this week, even though i’m in New Zealand, I turn on my computer and go straight to youtube to catch up with the daily events. I love the show and wish it was shown here.
Tell Simon for me, that I also used to be a huge American Idol fan and as I cant see it on TV where I am, I was looking forward to being a global youtube fan, but surprise, surprise, this year every link was disabled. Now you might say watch the clips on the offical website.. well I did but thing is they only have the acts and not the judges comments. Its like ice cream wuithout chocolate sause. Half the fun is seeing what you guys will say. In my opinion youtube is the greatest worldwide marketing tool you have. Look at Susan Boyle, she is world famious.. why… because of youtube. If she gets a record deal, she’ll sell records all over the globe.
Back to BGT, basically may favourites have got through. One I really hope makes it, is that lovely guy who plays the saxaphone so beautifully. I’m holding my breath, that he brings the house down. Oh and I love the flattleys. It is so wonderful to see a doting dad, so go him.
Cheers from

Just a bit of interesting trivia for you Piers……just to agree the human sax act was extremely funny and entertaining and well done by Kay Oresanya . There was a similar act done in America on the Dick Van Dyke show in 1963 called “I Am A Fine Musician” where four of them, Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore , Morey Amsterdam and Rose Marie all mimicked playing four different instruments and making the sounds as if they were.
You’ll get a good laugh watching it on U-tube if you type in “I Am A Fine Musician” Dick Van Dyke video . The act was a fan favourite and it was repeated the following year in 1965 episode 102….So suggest to Simon perhaps the reason he didn’t like it was because there was not enough….what if there were three or four people up there playing different type of instruments : )…..if he thinks that’s a joke play him the clip…..history might have already proven him wrong. : )

Hi Piers, I was pleased to see Stavros Flatley get through - very entertaining and I hope Flawless or Diversity win the competition. those two acts, I feel, combine a lot of talent with a lot of hard work.I do find it odd that a certain few went through while others were left out of the semi finals, especially as those off the wall acts who did make the semis patently haven’t much chance, but be that as it may. Enjoy the remaining shows, Piers. Best Wishes, as always, Tracey

I totally understand why Susan reacted to Piers’ comment for Shnlleen last night, if the report was true. I am also upset with Piers on this one. If were not Susan Boyle, who cares so much about BGT? who knows about Piers, Amanda? You all got benifit and biger spot light than you ever dreamed of, thanks to Susan Boyle effect. Now Susan has been under the gretest pressure on the show for her to diliver. she trusted you, piers. We trusted you to stand by her, support her, but your comments last night was over the board. It made me think that you may try to show your fairness, try to promote the show, for whatever reasons. If I were Susan, I would re-think about feelings to you as you are really worth it or not.

Like most people I found Susan Boyle’s performances beautiful and uplifting - which seems to be true of her whole personality also.
However, the media attention to this lovely lady could give her an unfair advantage over the other contestants who will be performing in the ‘final’ of the competition.
In many minds and hearts Susan has already won the competition - the exitement will be to find which acts take the second and third places.
I hope that Shaheen and Shaun will be offered a recording contract and feature in a tour if one takes place.
All the finalists are winners, as are many of the acts which have not made it to the finals. How I hope their performances have been watched and loved by people who will be able to help make their dreams come true.
BGT is not the only source of ’stardom’ for many of the acts, and I hope we will see the wonderful MD dancers, Natalie Okri and so many others on our screens for a long time to come

Though I’m in really doubts about the truth what the morning press did sprite out about Susan Boyle. It could be understood when it is even truth. She forgave the nasty treatment at her first audition in Glasgow with graditude and grace and said funnywise: “I know nothing! I know nothing! I’m from Barcelona…”, when Simon tried to apologize and stayed on to be filled with joy and hope. It might be possible by now that she felt “used” by the showmakers sharing the attention Susan Boyle brought them to BGT.
Neverthess I think this morning bird sprite out by the media is not really true. The BGT speakers even told Susan wasn’t in public by watching Shaheen’s audition at the semi final. At least the final will show what even matters. I believe every finalist will try their best but Susan will win with an extraordinary performance.
Best regards

Hey Piers,
well I know this is Britain’s got talent, but it seems quite clear to me that the world has already found its talent in Susan Boyle and it’s unfortunate that we can’t vote from the outside of UK. If that was possible there wouldn’t be any reason for Susan to be nervous in the finale becouse for most of us she’s the winner already.

I just adore BGT. I think the production has upped it’s game… hence making it as watchable, if not more, than the X Factor.
Brits being Brits we just love an underdog… and to see them succeed fills our hearts with joy (Stavros Flatley)
It also helps that the judges personas are right up there… Simon (who we all love to hate) but we know tells us how it is…. Amanda (who is wonderfully emotional) and stunningly beautiful…. and the delectible Piers who seems to have turned into a straight talking ’sex god’ overnight (albeit with a soft underbelly)….
Long live Britains Got Talent……

Piers seems to be playing with Susan’s emotions. What goes on in people’s lives should remain private not broadcasted to the world. Amanda and Piers are giving interviews all over the USA talking about Susan’s crush on Piers. Piers girlfriend is rightly upset about this. Piers has led Susan on inviting her on national tv to a romantic (even if it’s pretend) dinner.
Comments about the performers winning, being better than others are what they are, but it seems they are given to give more hype to the show. Personally, I don’t see much ‘talent’ on the show.
Hopefully, Susan can stay focused on her song and prove her talent. I would hope that Piers would apologize to her and be honest with himself, his girlfriend, the world and mostly with Susan. It’s not funny anymore. Jan, USA

I read those comments there and noticed most them are negative towards Susan. The point is no matter this story is true or not, it will affect public oppinion on Susan and the voting on Saturday. BGT flim-flams the public to garner huge ratings. Always we hear that you are looking for someone who has an ordinary job, doesn’t know how good he/she really are in order to showcase their talent. The epitome of that would be Paul Potts and Susan Boyle. So why is Shaheen a contestant? You called him a “young Michael Jackson.” Duh! That’s because he toured in “Thriller” as the young MJ. Shaheen has had professional exposure and the public is not aware of it. The best singer on the show? I wouln’t pay a farthing to see him or buy his record. I like Susan Boyle and I will be one of the 10 million you say will buy her first CD. But, I don’t think she should win; her fame has already been established. Let the honor go to one of the other acts. No Susan, and certainly no Shaheen! Tell Amanda her dress was smashing!

Don’t forget Shaheen did not get the popular vote. He may have only come in third at best.

Furthermore, I hope Susan gets angry enough at you that she gets that feisty spirit back in her for the finals, like she had during her audition, but that we didn’t see in her Semi finals. I hope she gets mad enough at you that she gets herself on that stage and blows everyone away again because she is certainly capable of doing just that. I want to see her make you have to swallow that lump again.

O, Heavens! What is wrong with showing a bit of temper? I only like her better for it–as does any sensible soul. Susan Boyle is a sweetheart–but she is as feisty as they come. All the more reason to love her. By this time, with her wicked sense of humor, she’s probably already plotting her revenge with the proper comic perspective. That said, she probably was the best singing performance so far. I only wish that could have heard her belt out a song in her hotel room just moments after she stormed upstairs. . . . Give me Susan Boyle’s flames any day. Passion is key to that woman.

A New Piers Fan says
I can’t believe some of you are blaming Piers for praising someone else besides Susan Boyle. Do you know how silly and childish that sounds? Since when are people not allowed to praise others for their talent? It’s a good thing, not a bad thing. Maybe if people gave compliments more often instead of having so much jealousy this world would be a nicer place to live in.
As for the story about Susan storming off in an f word rage, the media does make things up. Unless people were there, they have no idea if the report is true or not.
If the report is true, then this is Susan’s fault. I love her too. She touched my heart and has a beautiful voice. And I will buy anything she makes. However, if she did display that behavior, then she needs to cut it out and fast. It will kill her career because it will turn people off. The world thinks she is a sweet little angel. If she wants to make it, then she had better play the part and go with the flow. Someone needs to groom her for being in the public eye. BGT is going to have to teach her what to say, what not to say, how to act, and how not to act.
I will say something else. None of the judges said anything about Susan screwing up the first couple of bars of her song. They could have said something but they didn’t. So don’t blame Piers for praising someone else. I commend him for not saying anything about Susan’s Memories performance.
I did think it was a little snooty of Susan to respond the way she did when asked if she was nervous. She should have been humble and said yes. People figured that she screwed up the song because of nerves and they understood how much pressure she was under. Everyone would have understood if she said “Yes, I was terrified which is why I screwed up the song in the beginning.”

Contrary to your opinion, I thought last night’s show was a complete and utter dud. I didn’t laugh. All I did was fume that you put so many bad acts into the semi-final. Now granted, I love Stavros Flatley, but even their act was a bit of a let down.
HOW COULD YOU PUT NICK HELL, PETER COGHLAN, and the Darth Jackson through, but NOT Kieron Gaffney? You lost all credibility with those choices.
Shaheen is okay, but he flubbed a few notes at the beginning too and he’s not the kind of performer, I’d get excited about. If it hadn’t been for Flawless and Susan Boyle on the first episode, I never would have watched the season. The only other act to make it worth watching is Diversity.
And seriously, before you start criticizing what Simon knows about ballroom, go watch a competition - England is FULL of incredibly talented ballroom dancers. While sweet kids, Simon’s comments the pair’s dancing were perfectly apt.
Maybe you and Amanda should stop trying to wind him up and not outvote him so much… the semi-finals have been dreary (except for the two dance groups) and I blame you two for that.

I too am agreeing that from what I heard, Piers overpraised the boy last night. You could have said, knowing that fragile Susan is watching the show, “That was one of the top performances in the finals” instead of the “best.”
I hope you will sit down and have a quiet talk with Ms Boyle. She is extremely unworldly. This has to all be both a dream and even somewhat of a nightmare for her-at the same time. To have the papers come out with this unconfirmed “story” three days before the final is terrible news.
No one here in the States heard of BGT before Susan. Most of the acts are pretty bad and I only watched on the internet from L.A. last weekend, because of Ms Boyle.
I fear for her if she does not win. Those kids HAVE THEIR WHOLE LIVES ahead of them to win talent shows!

As much as I like Susan ,it’s not through her that we know Got Talent exists. To say is an overstatement.
Although I’m quite positive she shifted the focus of the world from the local versions of Got Talent to the British one to an extent never before heard of (Paull Potts did that but Susan definely extended the impact) and thus suddenly the eyes of the world are watching on with held breath.

Hello Piers, I didn’t think that I would be back on your site so soon, but when I turned on my computer today to see what Susan is up to and listen to her songs, imagine my surprise to hear some type of ugly rumour is in the papers. Most likely it’s a big fat fib!! hope I can hear the report soon and decide for myself. What amazes me is your commemt on the previous show: ( the best singing you’ve heard so far?) come on please….what happened? You know that Susan is the best and she told the whole world that she loves you and I truly believe that you love her too. So what gives? I left a commemt on her site where she performed ‘Memory’ asking her to leave the show if she had to before the final which should free her from any contracts, hopefully. She is a superstar and her fans will buy her recordings regardless of where she goes.
My suggestion was because of the possibility of her future happiness being jeopardized by the spiteful acts of certain people against the one she loves. If this is true then she will not tolerate it one bit. Even at the expense of singing for the royal family, her wish at this time.
Her loyalty to her loved ones is paramount in her life she is faithful and will defend her loved ones to the death if needed. No one can stand a spiteful person and could not work with them.
If she heard your comment she must be crushed inside, help her to understand why you said it, please….her worldly dream is not more important than you. I believe you feel that you can’t ask her to give up what she has worked so hard for all these years, but believe me, as a woman in love with the man of my dreams NOTHING will make me choose anything or anyone except my Lord, Jesus Christ over him. And you have a lot at stake too, but what is more important to you? we all make changes in life and start afresh a few times, especially when we have been given such a wonderful gift from our Creator. Grab hold with both of your hands and reach for the happiness that awaits… no amount of wealth or worldly success can compare to the unity of two souls in perfect harmony because they are made for each other. None of us are perfect but we can be perfectly matched, giving us a little slice of Heaven here on earth.
I pray to Almighty God daily that He gives Susan the strength she needs to perform, so well in spite of anything that is thrown at her, so that she knocks the socks off of everyone who hears her for the final show , if she goes ahead with it.
Remember she said before ‘ Don’t believe everything that’s said about her in the papers.’ She is getting the benefit of the doubt from me until she personally confirms or refutes the article that tried to belittle her.And so are you Piers until you say otherwise. I don’t think you have been faking all this time but only time will tell us ‘yes or no’. I will keep the faith and hope that you have been true all along.
Please step out in faith, you will not regret it, many new fantastic doors will be opened for you both, just look to our Creator, He opens doors and no one can shut them, don’t be afraid, no one can defeat you when He is on your side. Read Proverbs chapter 3:5&6. God Bless you both, always. A fan of Susan’s & now yours too, due to your defence of her all along. xxxx
Sandra.

Piers, are you and Amanda crazy? This boy, Shaheed, shouldn’t be singing like this. Am I the only one in the country to spot that his voice is in the process of BREAKING?!!! You could hear it when he sang AND when he spoke. Simon spotted there was something different about him - you could see it in face - he’s well into puberty! He sounded less like (the young) Michael Jackson, more like Tom Jones!
He was probably entered this year because his family knew it would be his last chance. But the Royal Variety Show is months away. Who knows what his voice will be like by then, but as long as has the cheque… This is serious - boys at this stage would not normally be allowed to strain their voices, and this “soul” type of singing starains. Choosing him was downright irresponsible!

Piers, It is very upsetting that the tabloids are trying to spoil Susan’s chance of winning by fabricating an incident which did not even occur. Every effort should be made to ensure that people know that she has denied the report. It is only fair that the public hear her side.
You were right to comment on Lily Allen’s remarks. Surely the tabloid stories are even worse and potentially harmful and someone should set the record straight before the final.

I am quite concern about this ‘Susan Boyle outburst…’ story is going to cost her big win. I have read all those comments on the ‘Daily mail’, and I was surprised that there are so many negative comments towards Susan. It is typical of Britan Meida that they build you up and then put you down. I really hope this doesn’t affect the voting on Saturday. I really want Susan to win. She deserves it.

THE WHOLE SHOW was brilliant and awesome,,, I love Simon, Amanda and You…. Fantastic Judges no one can beat the 3 of you. But with the competitors i love the way u commented on SHAHEEN he really has a future in music industry hope someone will manage the kid. He will be a great SINGER. I love SUSAN but i think some just sympathize to her i mean she is good with a great vocals…. but someone is right she was just overrated and simply sympathized and some pity on her so she got lot of votes. With SHAUN SMITH he will be a future POP or whatever SENSATIONAL in music industry, good thing he was in finals to extend his exposure because he is a great singer and i love his voice when he sang bill withers song in the audition(”he sang it better” than the AI winner Kris)i am really confused with some acts but one thing is for sure and makes my heart and head imagined to win SHAHEEN, DIVERSITY and FLAWLESS..they will be great in the ROYAL VARIETY

I’m in Champaign, Illinois USA, and the reason I am watching BGT is because of Susan Boyle, period. Because of her, I am watching the other acts as well…I want to know who her competition is, lol. So far, I see no threat, although I loved Stavos Flatley. The boy, Shaheen, bores me to death as do most of the children on the show - I wish they had a separate show for children. I love kids, have 4 of them myself, but there is no comparison between someone with Boyle’s talent versus this kid. I think Boyle has the best voice I’ve heard in years and years….the best since Patsy Cline. I didn’t like the ‘Memory’ song she sang though. Her voice was lovely, but the song didn’t offer the opportunity to showcase her range, especially the high notes. I wish she’d sang something like ‘This Is The Moment’ or ‘The Sound of Music’ instead. Oh well, if she is singing ‘Dream’ again in the final…with a full orchestra behind her - it will be magnificant!

I am vey disappointed. Piers, you have let Susan down. Susan misses a note and people crucify her and Shaheen messed up on the first part of his song Saturday night and nothing is said. And you said he was the best you had heard. Shaheen doesn’t have it yet but he will get there eventually.
If it wasn’t for Susan Boyle .. BGT, Amanda and you Piers would not be known throughout the world. SUSAN made itpossible for all of you to become known. If it wasn’t for Susan BGT wouldn’t be where it is right now.
Susan’s popularity has grown more than you think. We now have several fan clubs for her of which one I am on. We are sending her roses and messages of support.
And Amanda did give SUSAN credit for Amanda’s new job at CBS as a news anchor starting June 1st. Amanda said she had gone to Los Angeles for interviews for 15 years and never made it until SUSAN brought CBS attention to Amanda because of Susan’s newly found fame.
I THINK YOU AND BGT OWE SUSAN BIG TIME !!!!

It is not Piers’ job to care about Susan Boyle’s feelings. He is a judge on the show. If he feels Shaheen gave the best performance, then there is nothing wrong with saying that.
I am still a huge Susan Boyle fan. I hope that those who appreciate her music and her life story will be more forgiving of incidents such the one reported (if it occurred). We have no idea how her disability and the life she has led because of it, have framed her ability to cope. She needs some good PR people, who can talk to the press and teach her how to behave and talk to the press - now.
I know I will be waiting to buy her CD, but I want her dream to come true, too. She will need some help getting there, especially in the PR department, and I hope that Mr. Cowell and his people will not let her down. Thanks for bringing a good show. Loved Stavros Flatley.
If I were judge, so far:
1. Susan Boyle.
2. Stavros Flatley/Shaheen.

Thanks for coming to Ben and Becky’s defense. It almost makes up for your vile attack on Nick Hell who, while not my cup of tea, was a polite guy of what to us is a bizzare sub culture.
Not sure what everyone seems to see in these dancers, especially the solo acts. How can you tell if they are good or not? They all do the same foot gliding moves and some popping and locking or something. It’s been done before, for decades in North America.
Also, I didn’t watch Stavros Flately the first time because I ended it before I got the joke. Then when I realized what they were doing last night, I watched a youtube clip of some guy named Michael Flately and realized the humour in the act.
Still don’t know if they should have gotten through because they were basically just having fun and some of the other acts were practising for years and years and hoping for some recognition and success.

Why do you expect some types of acts, like the Barrow Boys, to progress their act from the auditions to the semi-finals when the singers don’t have to?
It is much harder for someone doing a trapeze act to come up with some new stunt than it is for a singer to pick a new song.

Teo, For the people of Britain you are right but what I think many of you there fail to realize is that BGT has went global and it IS absolutely because of Susan. Paul had nothing to do with it. Most of us never heard of him until we came upon his u-tube while listening to Susan. Don’t underestimate what this woman has done. I agree that Paul Potts is very good but we have our own who recently won AGT (America’s Got Talent) who I think is just as good as Paul. his name is Neal Boyd and he is also an Opera singer and also does one heck of a job with Nessun Dorma. I woudln’t expect many in Britain to know him but we in America sure do. Its very similar to your Paul Potts. A National star but certainly not global. Susan is International.

Susan Boyle has brought countless viewers to your show. Watch her back please. Everyone will want to make money on her. Even if it is not your fault, everyone will be holding you and Simon responsible if Susan gets taken advantage of or hurt. This is because you know the business, the shark infested waters and she does not. She is not prepared, without expert help, to navigate those waters. She has given us all so much and continues to do so. I have never enjoyed a voice so much and am looking very forward to her first CD. I have never really cared whether I could see someone in person, but I would love to hear her voice in person anywhere. You can see to it that she is not harmed. Please do so.

ROFL - Some hot under the collar posts on your blog today from a number of SB camp followers. To be honest regarding Ms Boyle’s semi-final performance, she flubbed a bit at first, but came through very all in all to finish. Well Done (Bravo Zulu)
No matter who wins BGT, she will have a impressive recording contract and the $$$$ will be rolling in for her.
Stavros Flatley, the genuine warmth of father and son, who really competed only for a laugh and make others laugh, unlike many of the other contestants had dreamed of fame or success in the entertainment industry. Interesting thing about their comedy dance routines, I find it makes me nostalgic of the old days of Hope and Crosby road pictures, Ball and Vance, and Laural and Hardy. They are in the mold of the old masters of comedy their comedic dance. They are having fun and laughing, and you wish to laugh along with them.
Yes Susan Boyle, never prejudge people, for all have worth. This Scottish Cinderella may not have have found a Prince by the weekend, On Monday she will have a recording contact and will be able to buy her own castle….
…..and for Stavros Flatley, the audience shares a father and son’s joy and laughter along with them…. Which is a true gift money can’t buy, unless its on DVD….

Now I am a fan of all of you and I will watch America’s Got Talent and probably all of next season’s American Idol. You can attribute all my interest to a lady from Scotland. I have watched all the acts posted and learned how to watch the show live through a streaming site. Susan has helped me develop new computer skills and I now know what gobsmacked means. I believe Susan will deliver her best in the finals and face the competition with grace.
Good luck to all contestants!

Well Piers all said and you have to apologise to Susan Boyle for not being sincere. See. The whole world is watching your blog. What you write and then give their comments immediately. Yes, it was Susan Boyle who marketed the BGT. The whole world LOVES her and speaks volume and defend her in this comment. Supporting her all the way through thick and thin. Yes well said and I agree 100% with Diane’s commment on 27.5.2009 “No Susan, certainly no Shaheen”!! Who make the BGT famous overnight throughout the whole world. It was DEFINITELY SUSAN who made that happen, attracting millions around the world to watch Britains Got Talent and support BGT. If not for Susan I dont think the current crop of contestants in this year’s BGT 2009 will be known by the world and follow BGT. You, and the other 2 judges Simon and Amanda owe that to her and be grateful please. I will not think that Shaheen is the best in the Semi Final as what you said(hope it’s the media who misquote you). And not from your mouth. If he is the best, why he was NOT publicly voted in? He came 3rd. Stavros Flately got the public vote. And Shaheen had to get the judges vote. Simon’s verdict: he picked the all girl dancers. And both Amanda and you pick Shaheen. This boy was releived and burst out crying nervously that he was in the Final. Hats to Simon Cowell, he knows best what is talent and use his wisdom wisely. Sorry Shaheen I am not in favour of you now. You have a nice voice. You are still young and have many more years ahead of you young man. Susan Boyle is hot and will surely be voted in to be the winner of BGT 2009 and perform infront of the Queen. The world is at her feet now. We millions of fans through out the world just cant wait to watch the Live TV final on 30.5.2009 and see Susan Boyle crowned the winner which she so rigthly deserve. And also to buy her 1st album which surely will be a hit and break Guniness World Record and carve her name there. Another thing Piers I agreed that the shows production should give Susan the freedom to use a hand microphone. So that she can sing comfortably and move around freely to get her nerves away. Instead of a standing microphone. Piers, hope you talk to them. Thank you.

Yes, I totally agree with a few comments here. It IS Susan Boyle who brought me to BGT and the website youtube of her performence. I love her singing….she has so much more pressure now than anyone else in the show. She deserves to win. The world is talking about her, because we love her and want to know what happen to her—we keep on checking up the websites, not because of other talents in BGT. Each time I type ’susan boyle’, all the news about her poped up, together with others about BGT.She IS such a special lady to most of us common people. BGT becomes famous because of her and her voice, her story, her spirit. Just check the youtube clips, only the clips about Susan Boyle were viewed millions of times, not other talents, why? the facts prove what I just said, she is THE best!

I think judging the BGT acts would be incredibly difficult. I must honestly say that I have agreed with the choices of both the judges and the public voters in the main. However, how can you compare Stavros Flatley with Diversity or Flawless for example? Yes they are all dancers, but the type enjoyment I get from watching Stavros Flatley differs considerable from that of Diversity or Flawless.
I find it very difficult trying to separate Diversity and Flawless. Yet I find myself moving more towards Diversity and I really don’t know why this is so. This bios takes nothing away from Flawless’s brilliance, it’s just that there can only be one winner and therein lies the problem. I believe that most if not all the acts that get through to the semi-finals are winners. I also hope that Aiden Davies gets through to the Semi-finals. I think he is incredible for his age and to think what a high standard he has achieved the in just a short period of time and all under his own drive to dance. The fact he has put his own routine together without any assistance is beyond my comprehension given that he is so young.
One aspect of the BGT, which I find distasteful, is Simon’s tirades, when he dislikes an act. Why can’t he let people down a softly. He clearly has a low tolerance level for acts he dislikes, which raises the question, should he be judging the acts at all?

I grew up surrounded by the music/entertainment business- my uncle won 5 Academy Awards as a musical producer/songwriter and my dad came in second to White Christmas for one. My mother and siblings were headliners in Vaudeville and then Broadway, while my sister had one small hit, did a couple Las Vegas shows and joined the New Christy Minstrels; she lost out to Ann Margret for the lead in Bye Bye Birdie because she wasn’t a dancer-they had preferred her voice. My uncle was personal manager to two Academy Award winners for their West Side Story performances.
Because of my own neurological condition, I shared the tauntings she experienced during childhood, which in my case included a couple of pretty cruel teachers. We both have carried our respective problems into adulthood, as well.
I even share the heavy- black- eyebrow phenomenon (and I just hit 70 2 weeks ago lol)
I bring these things up only to put into proper perspective my background and opinions re Susan Boyle and show business in general.
The music business is a brutal one- and and the tours are virtually impossible in terms of what they impose both emotionally and physically; those who book them aren’t interested in the welfare of the performers beyond what it takes to keep them capable of performing. If poor Susan is experiencing these things about which we’ve been reading now, I shudder to think how much worse it is going to get for her should she be catapulted into any lasting stardom.
Unlike so many performers, it would be highly unlikely she would resort to drugs or alcohol; a nervous breakdown is far more realistic. And should this happen it might permanently destroy any self-confidence she does have.
How I wish she could perform and even tour at will, with just a few concerts per year. I wish the only contracts would be for one performance at a time so that she couldn’t be sued or bullied. I pray her family will care more about her than her making money. She would shine at doing benefit concerts, abroad and locally, and would certainly begin to feel real self-worth which she doesn’t now; using her wonderful talent and heart to benefit the afflicted would be a healthy outlet for her.
She is a truly good and caring person, and I am afraid that if she remains in the business in the capacity for which her handlers are hoping, it will either destroy her health and/or cripple her spirit. The fact that she feels that winning this show would validate her as a person shows how vulnerable she really is and how little she realizes what she has contributed to others in her life.
God bless you, dear lady; many of us will be praying for you- for your happiness and well-being and that just the right man comes along to help bring this to fruition; you certainly do have the qualities needed to cause a good man to fall in love with you.
I bring these

I will admit that you had some good acts, but nothing that I would go out of my way to watch. I really like this show. It’s better than America’s Got Talent, and Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden are really good judges in different ways. Simon Cowell is honest, unfortunately he gets wound up by Piers Morgan, but Simon Cowell’s interests are extemely narrow. Amanda Holden’s also good, she does put through some rubbish. And you Piers Morgan wind up Simon Cowell because your jealous of his judging, and you put through some rubbish like Nick Hell or Mama Trish, so you can’t be the best judge in the world and I hope to see better of you next year
