Robin Williams To Play Susan Boyle In A Movie??
August 24, 2009
Picture the scene. You’re a Brit in America, about to go on one of the most viewed chat shows in the country, and within the same minute your informed of this, you’re also told you will appearing immediately after one of the greatest American entertainers of all time.
This is precisely what happened to Piers last week, when he was asked to appear on Conan O’Brien’s Tonight Show alongside the great comedian and actor, Robin Williams. As Piers puts it, ‘Oh God, that’s like following Sinatra at the Sands.‘
Before the show, Piers’ nerves were understandably a little delicate, so imagine his surprise when Robin walked in to his dressing room to talk about, amongst other things, his admiration for Susan Boyle! He even let slip that he’d been asked to star as Susan in movie (don’t be alarmed Susan fans - this was of course a joke!).
For a rundown of Piers’ hysterical appearance on the Tonight Show straight from the man himself, head on over to Piers’ sensational Sunday column in Live Magazine.
Enjoy!

Then Robin himself should come forth and explain that it is a joke.
No less that 40 papers (not all tabloids) are reporting it as fact.
We are still reeling from the cruel, sadistic skit by Amanda and Alan and now this. Sorry, I can’t seem to think it is very funny right now.

Thanks for that Piers, but all the newspapers are carrying this story today as if it was TRUE that Williams has been asked to play Susan! I am sure Susan would not be amused, especially since Amanda Holden said she looks like Eddie Large on a stupid UK show a week or two ago- I think Susan is pretty sick of being identified with looking like a man, and she has gotten so pretty now, so it really has to hurt her!! See what you can do. We are counting on you!

Even though it was a joke, I still don’t feel it is very funny to joke about Susan being played in a movie by a MAN!!! Unfortunately having Susan’s name in a headline means columns get read and papers get sold and also helps people like Robin Williams get his name in the news. Can’t someone come out and say how great Susan looks in Harper’s Bazaar!!!
Why keep trashing her? The 4-1/2 month old joke is wearing very thin.

This joke about Robin Williams playing Susan in a movie has been picked up by over 40 news sites as fact. Quotes directly from your Insider article without attribution. check google for details

You say above to “Susan fans” that it was a joke, but the problem lies with the 40 or more newspapers GLOBALLY that have taken the sick joke seriously and have published it as FACT that Williams will play Susan in a movie. You should write a column for all the newspapers which reported this as fact and explain to them that it was all a joke. Otherwise people who read those articles are under the impression that this is true, and it is most definitely not funny. What was said backstage should not have even made it into the public arena.

Piers, for Susan’s sake, can you do something with your contacts in the media and stop this foolish viral story? Susan is a class act and a wonderful singer, and this kind of garbage hurts her, I am so sure. If you care about her, as I believe you do, get Williams to make a retraction!!! PLEASE

Think it’s up to you to knock down this ridiculous story about Robin Williams playing Susan Boyle in a biopic. Not a flattering story for a woman to read with her breakfast tea. Apparently all these stories in the tabs and the Telegraph and the Guardian stem from your blog. Think you should make clear it’s a joke.

Mr. Morgan,
Here we go again. At least this time we know where the rumor-reported-as-truth got started–a joke in a backstage dressing room. It’s August, Susan’s back in the news, and there’s not much else to report except the Locherbie (sp?) bomber’s release, which just makes people angry.
Correcting errors in 40 newspapers gets pretty tedious for us unpaid fact-checkers. If you and/or Mr. Willims can set the facts straight publicly, it will give you more exposure, and us less work. Meanwhile, back to the various comment sections again.

Enough already! I am SO tired of people not showing Susan the respect and admiration she so richly deserves. I don’t care if it was supposed to be a joke, it’s NOT FUNNY. Nothing done at Susan’s expense is funny. Piers, you need to put a stop to this. What Amanda did was unforgiveable and I hope she gets fired from BGT because of it. Robin Williams has no right to imitate Susan as a joke. She does not deserve this and her fans are really up in arms.
All you people out there who are “joking” at Susan’s expense are incurring the wrath of millions of global fans and ruining your own careers in the process.
Simon needs to put a stop to it and if I knew how to contact him I would tell him so. Susan is universally loved - leave her alone!!!

Piers,do Susan a favor ,stop talking about her. Please. Let her become famous for her voice not as the butt of a joke. Its always a joke with you people isn’t it. Thats what Amanda says ,its a joke. “It was a joke” is the last refuge of a bully.

I never did like Robin Williams. Most of his jokes are over the top.
Thank goodness it is a joke. I can’t even say the words! Surely you all can clearly see the movie would be a huge flop if a respectable actor is not choosen. (biting my bottom lip in dispair)
I thought Robin was very disrespectful to you, Piers and I could see it on your face several times during the interview. And why in the world would you be nerveous in the slightest when it comes to Robin Williams. He’s the joke. Not him playing Susan in a movie. HAHAHAHAHA
Who gives a crap what the media is saying. Oh, I get it. The joke is once again on Susan. Is it ever going to stop?
(tears have surfaced and just spilled onto my cheeks)
I’m still extremely upset over the AH skit. Please, please Piers don’t join in the mockery. We’ve put you on a pedstal and maybe we shouldn’t have. You were great I have to admit in the beginning. But I knew deep down inside you were not being genuine about everything. Lots of your support for Susan was for your ratings. I just don’t want her hurt no more than she already has been. I know she is a strong woman but one can only take so much ridicule and ribbing.
I ache for Susan because I’ve been there for years and years. The pain never really goes away. It just gets buried and we put on a strong face until…one day…you realize you aren’t laughing but everyone else seems to be. I can’t tell you how much I dislike Amanda for what she did.
Do any of you people even know what worthlessness feels like? Not thinking you have anything to offer. DO YOU? I DO! It just doesn’t vanish into thin air. We appear strong and we try really hard to please those around us. It’s a constant uphill battle to feel excepted.
So, Piers, if you are true to your word, understand what is funny and what isn’t funny. Set the record straight. Susan doesn’t needs this and she doesn’t deserve this. If it were me I would take is as an insult, not as a joke. I know I need to consider the source (Robin Williams) but in all honestly I can’t forget Susan’s words that have rung so true in my life all my life. And unless you’ve been there you really don’t know how well someone is going to cope. I hope she provails and never looks back. I truly hope that is all behind her. Just incase it’s just being buried, Piers, always be her friend. PLEASE!
Just think how strong those words really are. Worthless and have nothing to offer. Some people don’t survive those feelings. I’ve had a few close calls. It’s amazing I’m still here to witness and finally begin to understand my worth. I’m 46 and the pain runs deep. One day I would like to thank Susan for sheding the light of hope in my direction.
I apologize for rambling on and on but a point had to be made.

Even if it was meant as a joke (?) it was made in extremely poor taste and shows a lack of sensitivity, integrity and intelligence.
Mr.Williams..you are most definitely not a credit to your nationality - or anything else for that matter!

Just a “joke”? I’m beginning to think that Piers is riding on S. Boyle’s coattails just as much as Amanda. And now that Piers and Amanda both are getting older, I wonder how desperate they are becoming for their last few contracts.

As an American and having seen Robin Williams in “Mrs. Doubtfire”, I really did not take his comment about appearing in a movie of Susan Boyle too seriously. From the way he said it, I thought he was joking - as indeed he was. Piers, you seemed a bit nervous on the Tonight Show, but you did youself proud. I thought you were very good, especially having to compete with Robin Williams!! Great job!

I agree with the above commentator who suggested that Piers stop talking about Susan. At best, he’s patronising.
I used to think that Piers was charming and intelligent. His comments about Susan Boyle over the last few months, however, have led me to the sad conclusion that he is arrogant and insensitive. Not too different, really, from Amanda, his co-playmate.

Dear Mr Morgan:
I feel so sorry for comedians at the moment. This world is lacking a SENSE OF HUMOR, and TOLERANCE! As a writer I am trying to incorporate some humor in my novel, but sometimes I wonder if I should give up - I know that sometimes I cross the limit -but who doesn’t?
I love Robin Williams; he is one of my favorite actors. I love Susan Boyle’s voice and SENSE OF HUMOR, I don’t think she cares about the joke. I am sure she loves Mrs Doubtfire. Once, somebody told me that I talk like a man, so I said to him: thank you, so now we can communicate with each other at the same level.
PS God Bless America and God Bless this World with a better Sense Of Humor!

Why does everyone assume a life story about Susan Boyle would be handled in a distasteful manner? It is true that the media wants to use her to catapult their self-interests. Afterall, she is the biggest story now.
During Shakespearean times, men portrayed women’s roles. Robin Williams is a renown comedian, however every actor seeks a role to represent more depth to their talents. It would be quite the challenge for any man to represent the good graces of Susan Boyle’s life. (In the movie, “Mrs. Doubtfire”, he looked like a very nice elderly woman who treated children with respect.
Wouldn’t we all like to see her very first kiss? I’m sure it was a treasured memory!
