Reflecting on a Record Breaking Series
June 1, 2009
When the ratings figures came in this morning for last night’s final, I had to check them four times through my bleary eyes (the after-show party was long and lugubrious).
The peak audience during the results show was an astonishing 19.2 million. That is the biggest figure for any TV show this millennium, by miles.
And it proves that this series of Britain’s Got Talent was the biggest, the best, and the most truly global reality show in TV history.
Ever since Susan Boyle’s audition clip roared around the internet seven weeks ago, the show grabbed the fascination of the whole world.
And, as I said on the show last night, it’s so good to have something that shows off the best of Britain, after all the damage our politicians and bankers have done to this country’s reputation in the last few months.
As for the finale itself, words almost (only almost, mind…) fail me.
It was one of the most stunning events I can ever remember.
Every act performed superbly, and collectively they represented an almost perfect snapshot of what real Britain is like - creative, imaginative, dynamic, funny, eccentric, and patriotic.
I was rooting for Susan Boyle, and make no apologies for doing so.
To me, she has been the greatest discovery the show’s ever found. And I’m only sorry that the extraordinary tidal wave of publicity she attracted meant so many people got either bored or irritated by Boyle mania and decided not to vote for her as a result.
I genuinely believe that if she had been on one of the later audition shows, rather than the first one, she would have won easily.
Showbusiness is a fickle business, and the reality TV end of it even more so.
The British, and I’m as guilty as everyone else, like nothing better than building people up, and knocking ‘em down again.
But the good news for Susan is that we also have a tendency to feel sorry (and slightly guilty) for people after the ‘backlash’, and they usually end up even more popular than they were before.
I thought she sang absolutely beautifully last night. Which given that she told me she’d spent most of the week crying, throwing up, not sleeping and generally feeling the weight of the world’s pressures on her, was a remarkable achievement.
To the cynics and critics who sneered at her, I simply ask: why?
It wasn’t Susan’s fault that she became this global phenomenon.
It was OUR fault. We, the public and the media, who latched onto her amazing audition performance and decided she was the woman to lift us all out of our doom and gloom.
I was incredibly proud of Susan last night, and was bemused to wake up to the headlines all screaming ‘END OF THE DREAM’ this morning.
Susan’s dream was not to win a talent show. It was to have a professional singing career.
And now she’s going to have one. I predict she will have a huge selling album out in a few months, and more to follow.
Britain’s Got Talent has been a rollercoaster ride for her, but it has also allowed her to live, and realise, her dream.
Coming second may just be the best thing that ever happens to her. She can now focus on recording an album without all the added pressure and attention she would have got for winning the show.
As for Diversity, they were brilliant last night, and thoroughly deserve to win. I can’t think of better role models than this dazzlingly talented, polite, humble, group of true Brits.
I feel for Flawless though. It’s not easy going first in the final, and I honestly thought they were just as good as Diversity. I hope they, too, go on to have a successful career because they deserve it.
As for me, I’m having a day off today and intend to do absolutely nothing whatsoever.
It’s been the craziest, most draining, mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausting week of my life.
But in a few weeks, I’ve got to do and do it all again on America’s Got Talent.
No rest for the wicked.

Today I read in the Dutch news that Susan Boyle has been admitted into a clinic to recuperate from the show. I am sure she will miss her cat Pebbles.
Since you are her favourite judge, please stay in touch and take good care of her.
Hope to see you soon on Americas got talent. Last time in the semi-finals I could not grasp what David Hasselhoff was saying. He voice was slurred and I wondered what medication he was on.
David Hasselhoff daughter found him, unconscious on the floor in his house and he too was brought to a clinic. Wish him well.
Keep fit Piers, and keep writing - that’s your talent!

I really hope she recovers and can give the world what we want! to hear her pure sweet voice singing its heart out ! Encore merci!

Again, thank you Piers, for everything. This chapter is finish. Both Susan and yourself are exhausted and need time, we understand. However, I hope that this is not the final chapter for Susan and Piers and look forward to Susan’s triumphant return.

As a French woman who lives in the UK, I was amazed by this show. Thanks for all these weeks of pleasure, joy and tears. And Susan? I loved her, she really deserved what happened to her, she is so nice and kind. She seemed so exhausted during the show, I was very sorry for her, but she made everything perfectly right until the end. Hope she will recover quite soon. Thanks Piers for your blog, it was great to read some judge’s feelings. and congrats to Diversity, what a stunning performance! Sure the Queen will enjoy

Piers,
Very concerned about Susan being admitted to a clinic. After losing and being booed, she needs to face an audience that really loves her when she first makes appearances so I fear going on the BGT Live Tour is a bad idea. She might get a bad reception from audiences which want to see the young singers and dancers. Ask Simon to send her to the U.S. for her first appearances as she will assuredly get the warm reception she deserves and it will build up her confidence in front of crowds.
If she can make a CD and then go on Oprah to promote it, she will have it made and everything will flow nicely from there. But if she faces lukewarm or hostile British crowds, then that might really shake her confidence, and of course the tabloid media would be there to record everything.
She did her best for BGT and look at the ratings. Now do the best for her. After all, Diversity should be the big draw on the live tour.

Dear Piers:
Please Piers, keep us informed. Keep up the support of her. Keep her safe. You owe it to her. I am devasted to think that perhaps the last words in her beautiful song, I dreamed a dream, could be prophetic: “But life has killed the dream I dreamed.” I fervently hope not. Don’t let it happen. The opening of this song touches the heart, “I DREAMED A DREAM WHEN MEN WERE KIND.”
I almost went into a rage when one of these newspapers that I read captioned the photo of Susan being driven away holding a boquet - the news reporter said: Boquet of broken dreams. Oh God, I hope she didn’t read that.
Please, give us some positive news about this dear Scottish lady whom so many of us have given our heart to. Thank you.

Piers, we are hearing that Susan has been admitted to a hospital suffering from exhaustion. We on her fansite are extremely concerned. Please, please report to us how she is now and when we can expect to hear something reliable regarding her condition.
And by the way, Susan should have won the contest. I cannot believe that the UK chose that dance act over Susan - something’s wrong there.

Please keep trying to keep those vultures away from Susan as she gets a much deserved break from those trying to rip her apart. No one can say she”lost” when the determining factor was calls that got through on phone lines. The true test-is time; long after memores of that show fade away and Susan Boyle continues to be a grand success!

P. J. says
Piers,
I wonder if perhaps the show could have done more to protect Susan Boyle from the public and media onslaught. To take a shy, introverted, unsophisticated lady with a huge talent and throw her into the deep end of the pool with the sharks doesn’t seem right to me. It bothered me during an interview that she indicated that she had been told that she had nothing to offer. I am sure a statement like that came from within the family or her village. Therefore, to rely on them to look out for her best interest wasn’t the brightest thing to do. Hope she recovers well with both feet on the ground. Will certainly buy any CD’s of her singing. What a marvelous voice.

i have to say that although I thought Susan Boyle sang well, Diversity was the better act. they are a bunch of very talented young men and children and ashley the choreographer is brilliant!!

Hi Piers,
Susan did her best and I’m sure will do well in any case. I was pleased that one of the dance groups won but my heart was with Flawless although Diversity are thoroughly deserving winners. It was a great competition but I should think that the “let down” when it’s all over must take a bit of getting used to.Enjoy your time off Piers. Best Wishes, Tracey.

I do agree with you : beeing second is the best thing that could occur to her (but I would have loved she was the winner though)
How can she bare all that “pression”, she who never had a public life but a simple one in her small village ? I congratulate her for this. No one could have faced this.
Please do help her going on on the way she hoped and she is nearly to live.
Excuse me for my english but its a long time since I studied it and I am afraid that there may be faults and misunderstanding words.

PLEASE BRING PEBBLES THE CAT TO SUSAN. Susan should have had her cat with her from the beinning of her arrival in London. It is well known that pets provide therapy. They love you whether you win or lose. Also it would provide a link to her home as it has been said she is homesick.
So please ask Simon to get a first-class ticket (LOL)for Pebbles to come to London as soon as possible and stay with her wherever she travels.

I understand why some people are against Susan. That’s because the community doesn’t like people who are less or more different.

Nicola Dökel (Dixon) says
“It’s been the craziest, most draining, mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausting week of my life.”
So, all those critics out there!:
Why is somebody like Piers allowed to be worn out, but a person like Susan not?
She must be absolutely wacken and you could see this in the finals. I think she sang brilliantly and was very wise to have chosen this song again, because she sang it much better than the first time round. It was magnificant and everybody who listens to it over here in Germany is amazed at the strength of this voice - especially at a time of acute pressure.
Somebody wrote an excellent comment on the Guardian. That comment really should be published in the tabloids, because it would perhaps shut them up and leave poor Susan alone.
I also don’t honestly think Susan was upset that she didn’t win. All she wants is to be given a chance to sing.
I tried to vote for her from Germany but could never get through. The phone was always engaged.
Susan, if you ever get to read this, Please carry on singing and try to ignore the critics around you - although I, myself would find it extremely difficult. I think you have stayed ernormously strong throughtout these last seven weeks and cannot blame you for getting so upset now. Others would have “cracked” much earlier.
What you need are good friends and people who really care for you. I really hope you get these.
Take care,
Nicky

I’ve just listened to Susan on Utube again and her incredible voice and perfect pitch never fail to amaze me and give me chills. I feel she should have EASILY won BTG, especially considering she easily defeated Diversity in the semi-finals. I blame her loss on the tabloids and the fact that many of her fans, thinking her win was a sure thing, did not bother to vote. I plan to boycot BTG totally next year. One, because never again, will there be someone like Susan on that show, and two, because I dislike the format…children vs adults, dancers, jugglers, comedy vs singers, etc. As for Diversity, just how many times can one watch that act? You’ve seen it once, that is quite enough, thank you. I don’t see them as “dancers” either, they are a finely tuned tumbling act, no more, no less. As for Susan, I’ve already signed up at Amazon.com to be notified as soon as her CD is available. I predict this humble, witty, and warm lady with the incredible voice, will have a very successful career. I do thank BGT for being the platform in which she was finally able to show the world her gift.

I admire you for your stand for Susan. She has one of the most beautiful voices, and such a sweet smile. She represents all of us with aspirations that we never fulfilled. What a roller coaster of emotions BGT has been! Even watching it via youtube here in Ontario, Canada. Susan Boyle was not prepared for the sheer madness of international overnight fame. I am glad fate stepped in and gave her runner up. Now she can have the singing career and not be as hounded by the media. Keep in touch with her Piers. You’ve become her champion and she is tired. Being admitted into the clinic might have been the best thing. And keep writing. I, for one in Canada enjoy follow this gift that you have. Piers, I love Susan and love that you appear to CARE about her well being. So many of us in the US do as well. She really should have won for her incredible individual talent, but you may be right that second place may have been best for her. She is so vulnerable and innocent and with gentle guidance I am sure she will be able to live her dream. I honestly do not understand some the vicious comments individuals and the media made about her. I could slap them all.
Please continue to protect Susan. She is just too precious to lose. Don’t let the tigers kill the dream she dreamed.

I keep hearing about how she is so big in the United States (where I live), but I don’t understand why she wouldn’t be considered the UK’s darling. I’m from Canada and I watched the whole Britains Got Talent series live through the internet. Really enjoyed the whole thing. All the acts were wonderful. Congratulations to Diversity.
Of course, my favourite was Susan Boyle. I’m so sorry she had to feel the weight of the world. I think she will do much better in a studio where she has time and is away from all the negative press. She held up very well considering the pressure. Yes, she’s in the hospital now but who the heck wouldn’t be given all the pressure.
I hope she comes to Canada after she visits the USA. She has a huge following here in Canada too.

Piers- I totally agree with the person who wrote here that Susan should NOT go on that multi-city tour. Maybe her emotional break down is a huge cry for help, because she is now anticipating that CIRCUS.
She is not a young kid like the others, and I do not trust British crowds to treat her well on the tour.
I agree with you in this blog that she didn’t care about winning a talent show- she said herself in her audition, “I want to be a professional singer. PERIOD.
There also, as you mention, way too much time between the audition and the final- all the cameras in front of her house for weeks and weeks- there was a new picture of her every day, and many times, I could see she was forcing to smile, but was NOT happy with the overkill attention.
Thank GOD she has a sophisticated man of the world like you, Piers, to vent to.
I am pleased you spoke to her a half hour yesterday. If you have time, go see her and hold her hand and make her laugh.
Please tell Simon to get her out of the tour. It would be harmful to her and she may just crack for good. All you have to say to the public/media etc is that under advice of her medical team, she is not well enough to make the tour.
All anyone here in America cares about is that she recuperate, and that is all you BGT people should care about also.
The time would be best spent by Susan in learning songs for her CD- with her voice coach- at home with her friends and her cat. PLEASE DO WHAT YOU CAN TO GET HER OUT OF THAT TOUR.

Dear Piers - once more a comment of appreciation for your backing of Simon Cowell which I just read in a British newspaper, and high praise for your show. I have heard so many comments about the show here where I live in Arizona, USA, and regret that it does not air here. Susan Boyle is responsible for the interest. Few had heard of BGT until all the news reporting on Susan. Most know of Simon, of course, because of his role as a judge on American Idol.
In my view, it is most unfair to accuse Simon of being in large part responsible for Susan’s exhaustion and ultimate hospitalization. It just goes to show how news can be misrepresented, distorted. It is clear to me that Susan availed herself of a clinic that is highly regarded for helping people cope with stress and unexpected and difficult life experiencers. I am relieved that there is such a retreat for her where she will be given support and counsel on how to deal with this overwhelming new experience in her life. I have faith that it will help her a lot and that she will come back strong. I have no doubt that Simon is as concerned as you are, as we all are, and is keeping abreast of the situation.
Thank you again for setting the story right and defending a good person caught up in the unexpected fallout from the show. We are not all able to deal with such instant fame. And despite Simon’s - and your - vast experience, I am sure that what came out of this latest Got Talent series was totally unexpected. No reason to make him a scapegoat. We all need to back off and given Susan time to catch her breath, and Simon time to reflect on yet another facet to his wonderful show.

I wrote to Simon Cowell via his Syco Company…hoping there is a way for her to still perform for the Queen…& can’t you just see Susan as a character on Harry Potter or Disney and not only that…a film about her life called…”Simple Susan” or Simply Susan….OMG The possibilities are endless for this woman…and thank to you Mr. Morgan for being so sweet to her and to all the contestants.

Thanks for the up date, Piers. While disappointed Susan didn’t win, I don’t it will affect her singing career. For us that are a bit older, trying something new is not as easy as it is for the younger generation. They are often fearless. Hopefully, Susan will take a short rest and then work on putting out a CD. If she tours she should do it alone or with a group close to her age. Better yet she should tour in the states. People like me would attend, and certainly buy her album.
Hope you have a good rest.

Piers.i’ve been leaving a lot of comments because i was so touched by Susan and yourself as well.First let me say that Susan SHOULD have won first. No doubt. But for whatever reason this wasn’t meant to be. She should know that;that she should have won.Now Diversity will appeal to a young group of folks. That’s the way it is these days. But Susan meant a lot to people of ALL ages. We were all touched by her talent and her personality. The Brits can have their teenage cheerleading squad. The US would have overwhelmingly voted Susan. That said, let me be honest here. I have a disorder called Menneire’s/Vertigo(excuse the spelling;it may not be right). It’s difficult.I won’t get into the difficulties it causes. Not important. However,i have a husband who has been with me for 17 yrs.
It makes a difference to know that you have someone that committed to you when things are good and bad.
When we first got married both of us were healthy and younger. As time goes on things can happen.
You can think you have the world by the tail when you’re younger. As you get older that may not be the case. Susan has brothers/sisters and some family. Not the same thing. You can also have the whole world say they love you-but at her age having a husband who cares for you no matter what is worth more than having the whole world at your feet. So here she is ill and exhausted and since she has a DISABILITY herself-which the British either forgot about or didn’t care-she has collapsed. My husband also has health issues. He suffered a minor stroke not too long ago.We both have a lot to ‘put up with’.I’m sure Susan with her own disability is no picnic but when you have someone TRULY committed to you;then you get through these things. With our health the way it is every day together is a gift. NONE of us are guaranteed to get up and take another breathe. We can’t make our own hearts beat.I hope soon recovers soon;i am sure that her loss was a huge slap in the face to her. Maybe some people think that’s great. I don’t find it amusing when she ought to have won.
Like i said when you have a truly committed relationship in marriage you can weather these storms.
Years from now Diversity will be nothing.Eash of those kids(and they are)will be going onto other things in their lives.Performing for the Queen.Privilege of course, but something that will one day be in the past. They will be going on with other things. PLS PLS don’t have the show send them here. We had hoped for Susan and that would be the last straw.
Susan will have 2 choices before her:
1. to recover and go on to be very successful.
2. to go back to her village and put this behind her and get her life back.
Either choice is hers to make and maybe no 2 would not be a bad idea.Whatever SHE chooses.
Sad to say the one thing she will not have a choice on is living her life with someone who truly cares for her. I’m afraid that is the saddest part of all. Tell her for us,we KNOW she was the winner and to get well soon. Pls keep us posted.I hope you are well yourself. It’s probably one of those times in life we all need to sit back and reflect. I am Catholic and my faith has seen me through some tough times. Something the world cannot offer. My husband and i have been able to get through all the difficulties we have both faced together. I hope the damage to Susan doesn’t end up being permanent. The thought occurred to me.This would be a shame and make you wonder if she’ll ever be sorry she set foot on that stage.Remains to be seen.Still let her know we care.

Hi Piers,
Thank you for the kind words and support for Susan. I have grown to understand how pressure as you describe can fall on a person like Susan. I think the compassion that was shown by yourself, Amanda and Simon came from the heart.
I know once all the fallout is finished regarding the hype from the show, Susan will be able to get on with her career. I hope that you will still have the time to show her the way.
Thx. Again….Larry from Calgary,

Glad to see this circus is over now. Enjoyed the clips on YouTube, and enjoyed these updates. My best wishes to Susan and her career ahead of her. It would be great if she someday did a tour, but I’d settle for the CD too. Best of luck in your future endeavors Piers. Nobody’s life will be quite the same after all this, and hopefully that’s for the better. Thanks Susan, for sharing your gift of singing so beautifully.

Dear Piers,
Just checked in to read any updates on Susan, have you seen her yet? hope so read the other comments too, and one said that from what is written here Susan is the most loved woman in the world…. It makes my heart glad to see so many others love her too.She is our treasure.
For the record Susan didn’t succumb to the pressures of the show only, that she kept up with ,it’s the horrific media & the cruelty spewed at her without reason that broke her heart. But only for now, she will be back in Jesus’ name stronger than before, He will bring her through this and she’ll be wiser too, not so trusting which is sad.
You called yourself ‘wicked’ I believe weary is the better word, you will be refreshed too. Remember the wicked go to hell I don’t think you want to go there. You are a wonderful human being and your Susan saw that in you very early on, look at her interview after her audition, she’s happy and the dastardly wicked media took that away for now but thank God not for long.
Please go to her today and see what she needs, hopefully she has her Bible with her, if not take one to her so that she can read it and get the strength she needs to keep going forward. Another person thinks that her cat ‘Pebbles’ should be brought to her, that would be very comforting to her, can they put it on a train and send it to London so that you can surprise her? Please try.
If at all possible get Susan out of that live tour with bgt she doesn’t need the hassle. Let them enjoy the ones they chose, our winner needs other things right now and for the future.Thank you for not apologizing for being in her corner, some people take on the public and go with the flow, to keep their career going. Thank you for being a man of principles, when all else is gone a good name is to be treasured. It takes a lifetime to build a good name doesn’t it? Don’t lose yours.
Please print as many of the comments from your site, (if you can’t take a computer to her) as possible and give it to her to read, to know that she is loved so much might be a comfort too and take away the bad taste of the horrid media.
Would still like to know the telephone number of her hospital to be able to send cards and flowers to her, that is if she agrees. Please let us know.
Piers thanks for staying true to Susan and write a few words from her on your blog when she is ready, so that we will know how she is doing every day.
we appreciate you more than you will ever know, you are our link to her, the papers don’t give the truth, so they are useless.
Tell her to come back as soon as she is ready and sing her heart out, we will be waiting patiently.
xxxx You will be triumphant Susan!!
A big fan
Sandra.

Piers,
I cried like a baby when I heard her sing “I Dreamed a Dream” in the final on YouTube. Not because she lost this competion but how poignant those words were after knowing she lost. With that said, I don’t believe she is a loser. This woman showed more moxie and courage than any one person I know in the face of controversy.
Ms. Boyle needs to rest, get her feet back on the ground and continue to sing not because we love to her sing but because she loves to sing. Like she said she is not worthless and she does have something to offer.
Piers, you seem to be in her corner and I hope in the future that you will continue to be there to guide her through this next journey in her life. She needs a friend she can trust.

Greetings from the United States-anxious to welcome the amazing Susan Boyle when she is rested and ready! I was just thinking how we try to teach our children, both at home and in school, not to be bullies; how such behavior hurts and can lead to tragedy. Susan had been ridiculed her whole life-but nothing like what those disgusting British tabloids threw at her over and over again. Well they’ve met their match with Susan for she will come back stronger than ever. You see the difference is she is a survivor-has been all her life. So while she soars with that amazing voice hopefully those horrid rags will fold-due to a decline in revenues and a public finally fed up with their bullying.

We need to set the record straight, folks. Susan did not “lose” - she was runner-up. The ones who didn’t place at all are the ones who lost! Susan was the very best and should have won - I have no idea why she didn’t but her fans, which are legion, are not happy campers. As an avid Susan Boyle fan, it doesn’t matter to me whether she won, but it would have been the icing on the cake. Susan is destined to be a big star if she chooses - Amazon already has overwhelming orders for her CD and it is not even produced as yet.
Piers, many thanks for defending Susan and keeping up with her for us. I personally would like to kick the h*** out of the trash tabloids that have hurt our Susan, and they need to be told in no uncertain terms to LEAVE SUSAN ALONE!!!! She is an innocent, and doesn’t deserve to be treated unkindly. Let them pick on Diversity now - bet there are lots of juicy stories there.
Oh, one more thing Piers. If I were 20 years younger, I’d snog you myself.

Everything I want to say has been said here–how I feel about Susan and what she’s had to go through. Your defense of her was articulate, compassionate, and dead on right. I too am hoping you will be able to stay in touch with her and support her the next few months, although it looks like you’ll be here in America. We are all awaiting her eventual arrival, and we can wait until she is well.

I prayed that the sudden fame would not be too much for Susan to handle. I know I would hate it. Everything is suddenly scrutinized, and to make matters worse, blown out of proportion. I too, think it is a blessing for Susan that she did come in second. Things will calm down for her, and she will be able to concentrate on her new career as a singer, and a sweetheart to many.

Dear Piers,
I just cannot understand the result of the BGT. I watched the videous during that night and wated for Susan`s singing. ANd she sang so, so well. I lost my control! But then, what a disopointment, the grup of dancers won the competition. I hardly remembered that grup exist. It not intrested me at all.
But thank you all what you have done for Susan. I like you and your nice smiling, what I haven`t seen never before the Susan join the BGT. Pleace, tell Susan we are waiting for her album! We want to listen her lovely voice again and again.

She sang brilliantly in the final but you could she was exhausted from all the media hype which was so unfair to her. I wish her the best. I also heard that Simon was at her bedside. I hope that is true and not just a rumor.
Get well Susan and do it in your time. We will remain your fans for as long as it takes. Get the rest you deserve. God Bless Susan Boyle!

Hi Piers,
I thank you so much for your support to Susan Boyle.
I myself did not vote for her as I was so sure 100%she was going to win. I was shocked and devastated when she became second but you know what I believe that she’s got a long way to go and I can assure you be one of those who’s been waiting an abum of her. After this comment, I’m going to download the song she made famous again, I Dreamed a Dream.
My support for her will never change despite of the negative publicities written about her. Please tell Simon to make an album for her soon. To Susan, I love you.
More success to you Piers.

Hi Piers,
We all know how versatile Susan is. If you haven’t heard her sing jazz, you absolutely need to.
I love jazz, have taken classes in it, and have never even heard the original sound as good! I wish she would have sang That on the final!
Sentiments same as everyone else. Not to take away from any other acts but Susan deserved to win.
Sometimes I wonder what the British (and I come from Brit stock) are thinking? Did they think just because she is a global sensation, and Americans in particular want to assist her career, that she was not enough of a representative of the U.K.? Hell, she put it on the map!
I hope the Queen invites her to sing some time soon, since that was also a dream of Susan’s. More than winning the contest for any other reason, I think.
Good for her, if she IS in clinic, best place for her to have some privacy and rest! God knows she needs it.
P.S. She’s still invited (if you hadn’t seen my previous comments) to come to B.C. for a lovely tour of the Rockies.
Susan - you hang in there! You can handle anything now!

My respect for you and Simon Cowell has done a 100 degree turn. Thank You both for standing up for Susan. I watched the whole thing on the internet after hearing Susan sing for the first time.
I heard about her on the NBC nightly news and did an internet search to see what all the fuss was about and like millions of others fell in love with this woman.
I hate reality shows and never watch them so this just goes to show the effect this woman has had on people around the world.
I was furious at the way the press hounded and treated her and still are.
Tell Simon he had better protect and watch over her because in my opinion he owes her big time.
I sincerely hope she is going to be alright and she learns how millions of people all over the world are pulling for her and wishing her well.
Please keep us posted on how she is doing.

The London news talks about Susan not winning due to her meltdown. I disagree with that spin.
I think the voting demographics were the reason Diversity won. When it comes to the voting process, the younger Diversity demographic will call 25 times, Susan’s audience is older and doesn’t have the energy to call 25 times, and some people thought she had it because of all her publicity so they didn’t vote.
After she rests and learns to pace herself, I believe she will make 25 times the money Diversity will make.

Thank you for standing up for Susan and for letting us know how she was doing before the final. I can certainly understand how exhausted you must be. I trust in her brother’s assessment that she will be fine once she has had some time to rest and process all that has happened. I hope that your dinner date goes well. I think that the two of you could do a lot for one another, and I am sure that you would have a lot of fun together.
I agree with you, Piers, in regard to Flawless.
Another thank you – I was hoping that the Susan Boyle phenomenon would bring to the attention of the media the idea that millions of people are indeed interested in a story of hope, beauty, and goodness. I really appreciate your comments along similar lines (and also your clear-sighted thinking on other lines.) The media has power to make this world a better place by inspiring us to goodness and appreciation rather than to scorn and outrage.

A message for Susan (and Simon)– I think that the accompaniment for Susan in the final deterred from her performance. For the last half of the song, the percussion was beating along as if for a rock star or a dance band. Susan had obviously practiced so that she could sing every note, every word with such care that it was like each line had its own story to tell. She should have had an accompaniment that complemented her presentation rather than one that interfered with it. PLEASE tell her to watch out for that when she makes her recording. I do not think it will sell as well if it has that distracting drumming. We have to listen to too many lovely songs through the thump and clatter (and gasping and wailing) that some people think they need in order to add appeal to their singing. Susan does not need that. We want to drink in her beautiful singing just as she pours it out for us.

Good Afternoon Mr. Morgan,
Since you are the one closest to Ms. Boyle, I wonder if you might pass a message along to her.
I have been a professional vocalist for over 20 yrs. and am extremely critical of myself and others in this business we call music. Upon seeing/hearing Susan’s initial video (over the internet), I was extremely overwhelmed with pride, joy and hope. Someone living in essentially anonymity had captured the essence of never giving up on your passion, especially if you know it is something you were meant to do and a gift from God. Considering the enormous pressure of any performer who is popular on even a local level, she has done an amazing job of remaining true to herself. I have considered ‘America’s Got Talent’ several times, however my uncertainty is MY reaction to the audition process. Even after performing in front of large audiences to high acclaim, I don’t know that I would have Susan’s courage in facing the brutality of scrutiny from the American public en masse.
Please let Ms. Boyle know that she has been an inspiration and whether or not she chooses to go forward with a recording career she has shown me that it is still possible to achieve the dream with courage and perseverence and I sincerely thank her for that.
Best Regards,
Sharon Epperson

Piers, is there a way you can convince the tabloids to lay off of her while she’s back at home. She should be able to go home and not be followed by them.
Susan, take as much time as you like to recover and get well. As for you to do the BGT tour, that’s your decision not ours.
I wish the papers would stop saying she lost, because she didn’t, she was runner up, and that it self is a bigger win than claiming first place.
some day soon she will sing for the Queen.
God speed with your recovery Susan.

I grew up in that wonderful era of music when we heard the artist first on radio or records and never saw them except on an album cover or in an occasional movie. We went to many big band dances and actually danced most of the time unless there was a solo performance like Gene Krupa. We spent many hours after school in a preview booth where we could listen to the record before we bought it. Get Susan Boyle into a recording studio and out of the public arena. All she needs to do is record and i’ll buy her cds. Have you heard her sing “Cry Me A River?” She sounds like a young Ella Fitzgerald. Thank you for being such a gentleman in your defense of her. You are a class act, Piers!

Let’s try to understand Susan’s behavior before calling it odd. In the final after Piers’ comments, Susan put her hand over her mouth (like when she won). I think that meant, “Oh, my God!) The head chopping was to signal to Piers that his comments might cause HIM his job! Simon talked about her cat, and she pretended to be petting her. Her dance at the end (the circle and pulling up the skirt) was to tell us all that she TOO could dance. Think of Starvos. All this was part of her humor. I think none of Susan’s behaviors are odd. She is the MOST MISUNDERSTOOD person on earth! Before calling Susan odd, if you can’t “get” her non-verbal messages, contemplate them and then ask her what she meant. Everything she does is in total context with what is happening. She is quite humorous!

Hi Piers! Once again, thank you for being so truly sensitive and caring toward Susan Boyle! She is my favorite singer- and what a beautiful voice she has shared with the world - and we all love her for that, her sense of humor, and as Simon says “being a little tiger.”‘ She is a first class lady! I am sure she is mentally and physicaly exhausted and probably in electrolyte imbalance form improper eating. I hope she receives TLC and rest! And if she needs to be placed on anti anxiety meds to deal with the terrible media in Britain - so be it - her MD’s will make that decision.
Susan was very gracious on stage and Diversity members also stated she was off stage as well. Any normal human being would have been stressed out as we say in America by the naysayers and the tabloid press thatt loved using negative adjectives to describle the lovely lady! The media is the group that needs to be investigated as well as the “stars” who were like witches criticizing her! - circling her like birds of prey!!! Many of them were projectiing their anxiety about their own lives and their own jealousies onto her.
Any human being who had worked as hard as she had and who had endured so much medi attention in the quest would be diappointed when they did not win.
I was devastated and stunned when she did not win the finals - it was a real let down for me! Diversity was good but her voice is unbelievable! I think many people had other activities away from the phone on Saturday night and also think many thought “she had it in the bag” and did not vote. Also I have come to the conclusion that the few who did NOT recognize her inner beauty and awesome talent must be a younger generation that loves “hip hop” music ( I do not call it music) and does not appreciate music from broadway or clasical music nor ballet. A “generational Vote” may have occurred in the voting process.
Susan is the winner of the accolades of the world that appreciate good music! I am waiting to see her sing her heart out and smile as she does so… as she truly enjoys it. I was brought up to focus my life around the adage that “what you keep you lose and only what you give remains your own.” She has given the world her voice and we love it. I also love that she loved and cared so dearly for her ailing Mother - which is love personified!
Please make sure she has a good agent and a good finacial planner that can protect her new assets from vultures, friends and family members and any unwise decisions she might make on her own as she has not been exposed to the type of assets and management of them that she will need to have to live a very comfortable future! Unlike a fewe others in previous blogs I have not detected any negativity by Amanda. Amanda is a woman and a Mother and her love and concern could be very valuable to Susan - she needs a strong sister or Mother substitute. She has been bullied during much of her childhood and even in adulthood and would be easy prey for misguided folk. (Lottery winners in the US have found this out the hard way.)Susan has probably not enjoyed much male attention and thus you were an easy target for a “crush>” You are a man of honor and integrity that has recogznied her talent and the reasons the world adores her so I know you will be a pillar of strength for her as her career flourishes. Simon has also demonstrated he is concerned for her well being and career! After she recuperates from these weeks of tremendous stress, I will be in line to purchase 3 CD’s of evry CD she produces - one for car and one for each home.
I am so surprised I have become part of “Susan Mania” as I have never enjoyed watching reality shows - even on my favorite Food TV Network_as I felt they could be so cruel and humiliating to participants. After seeing Susan on her 1st You Tube performance I was mesermized by her voice and listened to it every day to sooth my nerves. God gave her a wonderful voice!
I hope all the physicians and nurses are very compassioante with her and hope you, Simon and Amanda will continue to be very supportive of her.
Just don’t let Amanda “ground” you all or put you in “time out” too frequently.
Please keep us posted on Susan’s return to her good health and her steps in her career. I still listen to her sing every day. In the future, perhaps the show that has attracted world attention should be broadcast to the world and receptive to the world’s votes.
As a maternal-child health nurse I do think the show should raise teh age limit to 16. Prior to that age, one has not reached all the emotional growth and development milestones to handle the competition.
I have been so disappointed in teh British media with their “gotcha comments” - they are pathetic!

Piers, you have shown the world that you are a true gentleman. I absolutely adore you and how you have been Susan’s friend throughout all this. Susan should have won the show in my opinion. I don’t understand what happened with the voters. But Susan has won something greater, she has won our hearts. Please continue to be Susan’s friend and protect her from all the nonsense of the media she needs you. Let Susan know we love her.

Dear Piers,
We now have heard of Susan being treated at a clinc for exhaustion. Our Susan Boyle Fan Club has grown to 22,000 people. This is just one of Susan’s fan clubs. We are all very concerned about Susan and her welfare.
Fox News just reported that Susan may go home in 3 or 4 days and be with friends and family and have a small party. I also have heard Susan still wants to record and we will buy anything she makes. But, Susan has said that she wants to take “BABY STEPS”, right from the beginning.
I blame the media for the insulting things that they have said about Susan. I am tired of Susan being called “the hairy angel.” She definitely is an angel but doesn’t deserve the rest of the put down remarks.
Susan’s fans have asked over and over for BGT to protect Susan. Looks like that wasn’t done very well. I hppe Susan still will record but if Simon or someone else handles Susan and her career, they had better do a better job than what has happened so far. Susan’s fans are vey protective of her.
Piers, thanks for standing up for Susan and I hope you will continue to be a friend to Susan and stand up for her and protect her as best as you can.

From the bottom of my heart I wish Susan a speedy recovery. I care for her so much and I am worried and saddened about her break down. I hope that she will be able to leave behind all these nasty experices of the past few weeks and the disappointment of not being the winner of BGT. I hope that she realises what a bright future lies ahead of her, all the great opportunities for a wonderful and fullfilling career and most of all I hope that she is aware of the millions of fans she has in the world.
Dec (?) had asked her whether it was all worth it. And she said with such determination “Well worth it, well worth it. I am among friends, am I not?” Bravo Susan!! I just love you for your spirit, yes you are among friends, whatever happens please do not forget that.
Diversity was fantastic, I have to admit. What a creative choreography! I wish them all the best. However, Susan’s performance once again touched my heart. How powerful and passionate! She is the true winner. Thanks to Mr Morgan and Mr Cowell for their great words, I can only agree.
I thank Mr Morgan very much for his great comments, which are always very well and thoughtful written. I also thank him for everything he has done for Susan. It is touching to see the chemistry between him and her, there is really something special about the two of them.
Please Mr Morgan stand by her side, now she needs you more than ever. Prove to her that you are a true friend in good and in bad days.
Thank you for your understanding.
Best regards

Piers,
I, like many other Americans, first became acquainted with Susan Boyle, and yourself, through youtube these last weeks. As I followed Susan’s promising rise to stardom, I soon became distracted by your engaging and well-written blogs and by the personal dynamics between you and Susan. At first, I was deeply touched by your concern and involvement on Susan’s behalf, but I soon found myself full of misgivings. Your support and involvement, as generous as it is, was given with a dangerous sense of humor, in the full media spotlight… and you yourself represent a controversial package of karma and history that can only be tantalizing bait to former enemies and unhappy critics. In view of Susan’s innocence and her extreme sensitivity and vulnerability, I hope that you will reconsider your public involvement and its impact upon her and her career. This is not to say that your help isn’t extremely valuable to her, behind the scenes, I know it must be. But perhaps it is time for her to stop, symbolically, bolstering your career… as well-established as it is. I love reading your blogs, but I worry that you may be too intelligent for your own good and too desensitized for the good of others. Please use your talents and your fame wisely… and for the genuine good of Susan Boyle.

I think Susan was totally mistreated by the press. A “hairy angel”? She never appeared that way to me. I think gifted people such as Susan are naturally sensitive- it’s her sensitivity that enables her to sing so beautifully. The press took this diamond and pressed it into the mud. I am in California and would love to buy any music that Susan records.

Hi Piers, Glad I’ve got that out of the way! I’d never really watched Britain’s Got Talent before, but when I heard about Susan’s story it really struck a ‘chord’ in me and I’ve been an avid viewer every step of the way since. Her performance on Saturday night was absolutely incredible (I’m still ‘filling up’ when I think about it) and a real boost for those of us who are fed up of the ‘culture’ this sad, mad world has created and is so tenaciously clinging on to… Well done Susie and well done BGT-a job well done! I would have hated to have had to judge the BGT final. There were so many very talented performers. While I was rooting for Susan Boyle, I think she played it safe by singing the song from Les Miserables again; understandably so, and magnificently. Flawless I think also played it safe with a very static performance, albeit a ‘flawless’ one. Diversity and Julina Smith were outstanding. The top three definitely earned their positions. It would be great if BGT would arrange for the top three acts to perform for the Queen, with only the top act receiving the monetary award.
And, Piers, I gained a great deal of respect for you during this season’s BGT. My only exposure to you was you were on the Celebrity Apprentice. And, I have to say, I was rooting for Trace Atkins! ;^)

Piers,
I watched BGT on the internet, thoroughly enjoyed it all. Each group was good in their own right, and as much as I loved Susan, I think I’d have had a hard time choosing the best act. Mostly likely had I been in Britain, I’d have chosen Susan. I love her voice! And didn’t she look stunning for both the semi-final and the final?
Let her know we are all concerned for her welfare, that we want her well-rested and ready to face her new career, at her own pace, of course. We are ready to buy her music, listen to it over and over and over again. Just think, if youtube charged as little as a penny to watch a video, how much they’d have made just from Susan’s videos!
One last thing - when you honor your offer to Susan for a nice dinner, (and I hope you do!), make it as private as you can, without publicity, for her sake. Make her feel like a queen! (Although we’d all love to see a picture!)
Thanks for keeping her fans updated on how she’s doing.

Since the moment I heard Susan Boyle give that magicalperformance, I like many other people took “Britain got talent” seriously and tuned in.
I feel so sorry that Susan Boyle had to endure such cruel comments. Some of these commnets were personal and so wounding. I realise that the english press are very powerful and can change public opinion dramatically. Ok Susan’s humour appears to be a bit odd but that is such a little flaw for such a wonderful and heavenly voice. She needs our understanding and not cruel envy. I wish her well and hope to meet her one day. My advice to her is “enjoy your voice, let go of the tension and have fun” . She deserves success and hapiness. X

I am so angry and disgusted at the percentage of the British public who have taken this small minded attitude toward Susan. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the overnight global fame that has been thrust upon someone of her standing is the reason behind her current problems.
I’m not taking anything away from Diversity who were very worthy winners, but I do feel that she was robbed of a title that she should have easily walked away with just because this same percentage of people are incapable of understanding basic human emotions. Having said that, as someone has already said, she is probably better off without the title. Her first audition still gives me goosebumps and I can’t wait for her debut album. I wish her all the very best.

Hi Piers- Thanks again for your great interviews on this day, in behalf of Miss Boyle, while she is in the Priory for Mental Exhaustion.
She is obviously pretty smart, in spite of what they say, as she seemed to choose YOU pretty fast, as being trustworthy and an ally. Despite what has been said about you in the past, you are a real great guy.
I suspect you like her a lot, also– seems that way, anyway.
I myself was rooting for Susan since I first was sent the link to her audition- I have been exhausted and mentally and emotionally drained myself, since the semis and I live IN LOS ANGELES!
I am supposed to be working, and I all can do is read the internet to find out how Miss Boyle is doing today!
I think a great idea that someone else also suggested, is to print out ALL the good wishes that are on the BGT website re: her health issues at this time. With only like five exceptions, all of the posts, and they are from ALL over the entire world- are uplifting, and she should have them, to keep and read and cherish to see how she did not lost at all, because the entire world loves her. That is pretty cool.
If it was me, I would love to read all those NICE things said about me, and all the love and prayers that are behind those posts. I hope to read tomorrow that you have printed them out and gotten them to Miss Boyle.
Thanks!

What is it with people, living in glass houses who insist on throwng stones?
Lily Allen states that Susan cannot sing….coming from someone who talks her lyrics, I find this a bit rich.
Craig Revel Horwood says that Susan sings as bad as she looks. How can one who looks like he has the same plastic surgeon as Michael Jackson be so unaware of the irony of that statement?
Worse still, the papers continually mention Susan’s learning difficulties and sheltered life, but fail to take this into account when she reacts “badly” to being continually, purposefully wound up, or should that be bullied? Once again, the British press have blood on their hands.

If you have a shred of decency, Piers, you will cancel your “date” with Susan as soon as possible. She is clearly not as in control of her faculties as originally thought, and in her mind, I fear she may think of this as a “real” date.
The reality of it all is that she had a better chance of winning BGT than she does at winning your heart. Forgive me for being presumptious, but I am guessing that you do not plan to leave your gorgeous girlfriend to be with Susan…
I do not question for a moment that your intentions at the beginning of all this were kind. However, the LAST thing Susan needs right now is to be misled, and have her heart broken… AGAIN.

I wish you had mentioned little Hollie Steel in today’s blog. I loved Susan, but it was clear to me she wouldn’t win after her very wobbly start in the semi-final (and “wobbly” is kind) although she finished very strong (once she reached a point in the song where she could belt). ANYWAY, for me the story of the final was little Hollie. After her meltdown the night before, she was so incredibly poised. But not poised merely in the sense of “collected”, but so MATURE. Those ending lyrics (”No more memories, no more silent tears; no more gazing across the wasted years”) express a very ADULT sentiment — for a 10-year old to fill them with such meaning, it floored me ! I can’t stop watching it — she is such a beautiful, talented child, and I hope she has a big future.
(But I also hope she doesn’t rush it; she should take the time to be a little girl first…)

Piers,
Lovely comments. Thank you for your defense/appeal for understanding of Susan. Deplorable how the media turned on this past few weeks. She has that indefineable “something” that very few people have and it seems that there are an appallingly large number of people who are jealous of that.
Like many others in the U.S., I can hardly wait for Susan to record. But in my opinion, given the stress she has been under, it almost seems better for her not to have won because perhaps now the media/public scrutiny will lessen somewhat.
BGT now has a bigger audience than ever before and I think it’s safe to say that Susan has played a large part in that. I’ve been watching many of the acts and have been thoroughly entertained by so many. “Diversity” really are amazing; “Flawless” was just that. The father/son Riverdance parody act was hilarious. So many great performers.
Anyways, best to you and to the many extraordinarily talented performers you featured. As my ‘name’ attests, I’m definitely ‘a new fan’ of Britain’s Got Talent.

Dear Piers - don’t ever change. I’ve read your blog several times, marvelling at your kindness and compasion, amazed that you are very much in the entertainment business, did your stint at Fleet Street, but come across as True Blue, to quote the Aussie song. You are very perceptive also. I think you hit the nail right on the head. Susan was asked what her dream was, and she said to be a professional singer. She proved beyond a doubt that she has what it takes for that. It just needed time to play out, and, as you so aptly said, she didn’t need to WIN the talent contest. I hope that the staff at the Priory will help her to see that now she has had time to rest, to put things in perspective. Her brother said she was concerned about her future, fearful that she had let everyone down, and just plain homesick. Hopefully, I pray, all those concerns will be addressed at the end of the month when she has refreshed herself at the Priory and recovered her old self, so charmingly obvious during her audition. I say about Susan what I say about Michael Jackson, who for me was, is, and always will be a genius. His creative genius has not gone anywhere, it just needs to be persuaded to come out again. So with Susan. What she was on May 30 has not disappeared. It’s just retreated for a rest. And Pier, with someone like you in her corner, not literally, but supportive of her, speaking words of encouragement, that wonderful creative spirit cannot be denied. It will out. I have faith in that. Susan, hang on Love. As Shakespeare said, “There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” The best is yet to come Susan. Ask them to get you some fish and chips and a glass of lemonade, and say Cheers. Love, A.

I hope you are right though and Britain will support her again. I loved diversity right from the start, however I found it a bit of an anti climax for Susan not to win….almost like watching an amazing movie where the ending just doesn’t quite sit right. Piers your kindness and wisdom about Susan Boyle shine through the disgusting behaviour of the media pack dogs.
I am an adult who has experienced a brain injury just like Susan’s. How she coped with the ignorance, bullying and judgement without even adults memories as I have had to guide me, I cant imagine.
people need to understand that an area of function (eg relating to managaing one’s own behaviour) can be damaged, while other things (eg talent) can remain intact. To those who say she shouldn’t have been performing, would you say that to someone who was blind or in a wheelchair? Her heroism is as great as theit’s, more so. Try managing when your brain’s ability to manage is compromised. She is a hero and was before she even sang in the contest.
Piers - this is really important. Susan’s behaviour was often misunderstood. In a way it is easier to stand up and sing at a prestigous song contest than to handle the complexity of other people’s reactions. We can become agitated and overwhelmed by complexity and unpredictable situations. That doesnt mean we are mad or bad. Susan needs protection. I believe she should be protected from singing to crowds, encouraged to record instead, and have a brain-injury qualified supporter (we need a mental wheelchair) with her for public appearances where things could turn unpredictable.
Keep being a voice for rational and thoughtful behaviour, thank God for people like you Piers.

No wonder Susan didn’t win if there are people who didn’t vote for her. This type of thing I have heard before. You can’t take for granted someone is going to win and all the bad press poor Susan had ensured she would not win.
My own thoughts though was that it would’ve been better for Susan had she not been made such a huge celebrity over night after her audition was televised and just been among the many other successful acts going to the semi-finals.
It was all too much and too soon.
She did seem very sad in Saturday’s show and my heart ached for her. She sang beautiful however. Wasn’t there anyone there to tell her how to conduct herself? People I know did not like the show of leg or wiggling of hip.
It would’ve been better had she just left the stage immediately because that just gave the papers more ammunition to fire at her.
I hope Susan is soon with her family and friends and gets a sense of normality back in her life.
For me she will always be a winner and she has captured the hearts of so many. Please get well soon Susan.

Amanda Holden today in the USA ignorantly denied that oxygen deprivation at birth caused brain damage to Susan Boyle - medical misinformation. The fact is that oxygen deprivation of this sort is a very serious event which causes brain cells to die therefore damaging the brain - it is a birth defect. Boyle therefore is someone who suffers the effects of some form of brain damage at birth caused by oxygen deprivation. This is why she was diagnosed as having mild learning difficulties - you dont get them without brain damage either developmentally or by this kind of traumatic event. Pl ask her to stop trying to sound pseudo medical about oxygen deprivation when she clearly cannot understand what is involved - its does not help public, press, professionals or patients dealing with these issues and does not help us to understand the challenges faced by Susan Boyle. Those who persist in judging Boyle as just a diva need to think about the effects of brain damage, learning difficulties and its asssociated impact on social and emotional functioning before accusing her.She is amazing and doing her best with her startling abilities despite obvious disability through brain damage.

Piers,
I’ve done nothing for the past few days but think about and pray for Susan. My heart aches that her feelings were hurt by her own people. We all should support one another, not tear each other apart. It’s amazing how the virtues taught in kindergarten are thrown out the window when we’re adults. I admire you for your support. It was incredible when you told her that she looked “beautiful” while on stage. I wish I could visit with Susan and tell her how much she touched my heart with her smile and beautiful voice. REMEMBER folks “diversity” was voted best dancer; Susan was voted best Singer. She won the show and the hearts of millions. I hope she realizes that. There’s not a lot of fairness in that process with BGT and will never watch it or any other talent show again. I only watched it because of Susan.
Piers, hold her hand and read these messages to her. Susan, since a lot of British people are that cruel and narrow minded, come to the US and we’ll all party together. We’ll treat you better than the Queen. I’m sure theres a room in Oprah’s Mansion she would share or I have an extra room in my house, too. My family and I love you Susan. Hey like they say “what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger–Susan you’ll be bigger and better after all this.”
Queen Elizabeth, invite her to sing for you. That was part of her dream. The whole world would watch that and see what a wonderful Lady you are to make Susan feel Special.
We all need to tell Pres Obama to extend the invitation again to dinner and a Song. His rating would go up and people would quit worrying about the eonomy for a while. Ok, enough from me. I could go on forever. XOXOXOXO Susan.

You know, it makes me so angry, why does the UK people and the papers run all of their people down? There wasn’t a nasty word over here in North America! I will never, ever understand why the British press has to turn on everyone and run them into the ground! What is wrong with them?? Don’t they realise they are destroying someones’life? It makes me furious! Your press is worse than the “rag” magazines!!!! I wish with all my heart the people in the UK would stop buying the newspapers and all the negative nonsense, there are so many more important things in this world! It is disgusting! Please keep in touch with her Piers and keep your fans on here informed! Thanks………

In winning or losing by the legendary Manchester United footballer, the Frenchman Eric Cantona. My hero. ManU is my team, and yes they lost to Barcelona on May 27, 2009, but this spirit of Cantona is a tribue to the legendary Matt Busby his mentor. Cantona is talking about the film “Looking for Eric” but it is his philosphy on winning or losing that is inspiring …
“We love the film, and if we win something, we will not love it more … If we don’t win anything, we will not love it less. We just love it as it is. But Cannes is one of the biggest film festivals in the world, and we are very proud to be here. And we are competitors. Competitors like to win, of course.” Eric Cantona.
We do not love Susan’s talent less because she did not win the contest. In fact, since May 30, we love it more. And you, Susan.

Dear Piers
I will reiterate what I said the other night about Susan Boyle.
Why oh why, did she have that makeover and destroy the image that endeared her to us?
Grey hair, bushy eyebrows, frumpy dress - golden tones. Like everyone’s mum. Magic!
Reddish hair, thin eyebrows, glitter tube dresses - taut face, wobbly voice. A manufactured look that is not only inappropriate but destructive. Comprende?
Three thoughts:
1. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
2. Don’t kill the goose that laid the golden egg.
3. Let her be again what it says on the tin. Right now she isn’t.
Reverse the makeover - go back to the roots (literally) of her real persona, allowing her to sing freely, frankly, and without hypocrisy.

Piers, thank you for speaking up for Susan, I really admire the way you defended this gracious lady. She has a magnificent singing voice and I can’t wait for her CD to come out. I was shocked that she didn’t win, but at the end of the day in my eyes she was victorious. When she sang Memory in the semi final, there was a point in the song where the music was playing, Susan smiled and slightly nodded her head, that gesture bought tears to my eyes as I saw the gentle, humble lady that she is. I hope she soon recovers from her exhaustion and is well again. Is there any way she can get a special invite to sing before the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance, as I feel this was more important to her than winning the competition. Please look after her and reassure her that we all still love her.

Although a good 90% of posts to blogs such as this one on Piers site and to Susan’s fansite are a wonderful tribute to Susan, I cannot believe the presumptuous and condescending comments of many others. Why do certain folks feel they have the right to delve into Susan’s personal life and business life??? These same folks evidently feel they have the right to tell her what she should do or not do. Susan is an adult, not an infant, and she has friends and family and advisors who actually KNOW her. What makes you think Susan would be interested in taking the advice of complete strangers on the internet and why should she? I hope Susan never reads the posts on all these blogs….they are simply overwhelming with people going off in all directions - she should tour/she should NOT tour, she should record a CD immediately/she should go home and rest immediately, she should sign with Simon Colwell’s company/she should NOT not sign with any company having to do with Colwell, she should rely on her family/she should NOT rely on her family, she should sing with a standing microphone/she should sing only with a portable microphone, her cat should travel with her/her cat should not travel with her, she didn’t care that she came in 2nd place/she was upset with 2nd place, etc, etc. In addition to all this, we have people telling Piers he should “protect” her and “save” her and “keep her safe” and Simon should do the same. What nonsense! I’m sure both Piers and Simon have Susan’s best interests at heart and care for her deeply, however, they do not and should not run her life! Susan is not just sitting there like a puppet waiting for her strings to be yanked in 10,500 directions. When she needs advice, I’m sure she knows the people she wants to talk to and that decision is not up to strangers on the internet or tabloid rags! In fact, the internet is full of crazies, full of lonely people, full of self-motivated people, full of people who have no life and therefore feel the need to stick their nose in someone else’s life, so the last thing Susan needs to do is find herself conned by someone on the internet. It would be nice if people could just concentrate on her incredible voice, her beautiful smile, her joyous and quirky personality and just wish her well and let her know when SHE decides to put out a CD, we will all be waiting in anticipation. As for me, Susan has the most lovely voice in the world and I will never tire of listening to her sing.

Dear Mr. Morgan, Thank you for being so level headed, sensitive, and balanced regarding the phenomenon regarding Britian’s Got Talent and Susan Boyle. I heard the original audition on YouTube when it first came out only because someone sent it to me, knowing I would be delighted by it. Of course I fell in love with Ms. Boyle as millions did. Now, having followed all the publicity, watched many interviews with her, heard her sing the semi-finals and finals performances, she has become very dear to me. I sense you and those in charge at BGT will do the right things; namely, watch out for her, give her that chance to make an album, protect her as much as possible, go slowly, and always be aware of the her mental and emotional limitations and her requirements for whatever will now be a normal life. I realize this is uncharted territory for your line of business but please take good care of her! From an older lady in America who only uses the computer for e-mail, bills and local news

Mr. Morgan, you have revealed a character that I had hoped (but did not know for sure) you possessed.
Your genuine understanding, compassion, and concern for Susan are as cardinal as they are rare for one whose professional world is filled with narcissism, mendacity, and self-enlargement.
Susan’s story is that of a real person, with real challenges not of her making. But she is no victim, for that label would disrespect a life lived with the simple courage to which most of us can relate.
I was troubled when the first stories of aberrant behaviour emerged. Was she just a truculent “b”?Was this a “diva complex” in the making? Why did I first jump to these possibilities (mmm, a personal learning moment yet again).
Knowing the media’s modus operandi, and taking the full measure of events into context, the truth is that Susan has experienced a toxic brew of past hurt brought back full-force combined with new poisons concocted by the media - as you have so well said, who amongst us is equipped to deal with that? Susan has understandably become overwhelmed. Confusion and pavlovian anger fuelled by genuine fear have taken control of her self-defence response in those moments when she has been most vulnerable.
Who are any of us to mock or belittle such a soul? You have answered that - period.
Like most of the fine responses here, I want nothing but good for Susan Boyle. Simply, she bloody well deserves it - end of story.
Most of all, I hope she finds peace of mind.
As for you Sir, I would be so happy to buy you a glass of 1787 Chateau Yquern Sauternes any day - but I guess I’ll just have to be miserable as no way can I afford that! How about a pint of Guinness?

What about Susan now? She was very taken with you and i am sure her heart is shattered for more reasons than one. She is fragile and one has to wonder if all the pain she went through as a child, being made fun of and harassed, is not coming back. She truly needs someone who cares for her to be close and comfort her. She needs to continue with her music career but with that someone close by at all times. I can’t help but be so sad. Piers you are truly a gentleman and a wonderful human being - what has happened to Susan Boyle is a global disgrace but I believe that you have stood solidly at her side and tried to guide her through the madness. Poor Susan, she genuinely thought that she could sing her heart out and win the competition - WRONG - the wicked media and the general public are there, full of criticism and vile opinion - shameful !! Clearly Susan did want to win but more she wants to perform for the Queen - surely you and Simon Cowell can make that happen for her. That of course assumes that Susan is going to get well and see the sunshine again - she brought a smile to the world - surely we can give her the space and support to bring a smile back for Susan Boyle. Piers, great blog. I’ve always liked you so nothing new here, but just wanted to say how nice it is to see you come to Susan’s aid, especially at this sensitive time in her life. And nice to read so many positive comments about her here. You don’t find it everywhere and I just can’t fathom the senseless attacks against this woman. Thank God for you, out there, a powerful advocate standing up for her, when she cannot do so herself. I hope at the Priory or wherever she is (I notice you were too chivalrous to even say, noting that that’s her business) that they show her some of the positive feelings being expressed for her, for there are plenty. She doesn’t need to see the other, but I would think the positive might help lift her. And, I know easier said than done, but I am so hoping they will be able to teach her to ignore the negative when she comes back to us. You have to get a thick skin if you’re going to be out there in the public, don’t you? Please tell her when you talk to her that she has many, many fans wishing her well, and who want her to take all the time she needs and that we look forward to seeing that beautiful face and hearing that beautiful voice again when she is ready.

Hi Piers,
Thank you so much for taking Susan “under your wing” so to speak. She is such a wonderful gift to us all!
I am a teacher, and right around the time of Susan’s first audition, I was having quite a time in my classroom with students bullying others and/or making fun of other students who were “different.”
So I took it upon myself to show the class the clip of Susan’s audition after I had filled them all in about her life–they were so impressed by her and immediately “got the message.” One of the boys said, “Wow, that took GUTS.” And some of the girls were actually crying after seeing Susan perform.
I just LOVE Susan, and I’ll be looking forward to her first album. I can’t wait to see Susan when she tours the US!
Tell Susan we wish her a very speedy recovery, and all the BEST the world has to offer her!!!

This is why Piers is a good man for Susan to have in her corner.
Following Piers Morgan’s volitile career one will see he always stands up for what he believes is decent and right; often not too tactfully and has then been knocked down for his pains. But he always seems to pick himself up brush himself off and start over again. He was actually in an invideous position here he is a very well paid judge of BGT. His first loyalty must be to keeping the interest in the show going creating competiiveness even fanning the flame. Then along came Susan Boyle and like Karma he witnessed the recieving end of his erstwhile forum the Tabloid Press.
Piers was the youngest man at age 28 to become the editor of a newspaper, had various other important roles. He has written several books, and swum in the shark infested waters of celebrity fame, and has so far survived. How amazingly fortuous that someone as naive as Susan preferred him over Simon Cowell?
I salute you Piers you have one way or another slipped into the role of knight errant to Susan Boyle. Long may she reign.

I believe that Susan entered BGT for her late Mother’s sake and hoped to win to honour her Mother.

Dear Mr Morgan:
I love British shows and I agree with you that this BGT was the most stunning event that everyone all around the world will be remembering for many years to come.
As a simple human being with a member of my family suffering from mental illness, I have learned that we don’t just encounter or meet people in this world by accident. I truly believe that in all kinds of experiences in this life there is a lesson to be learned and a mission to accomplish.
Maybe the Susan Boyle’s global phenomenon happened in Britain because your culture is one of the most admired and respected in the world. Who cannot love your amazing writers such as Shakespeare, Dickens and Austen.
I think that Miss Boyle is going to need now, more than ever an honest and strong person like you at her side.
Thank you so much for your kindness, support and understanding.

Had to add another letter to my name as there is another Beverly here…. Please, everyone, it’s a travesty to keep saying she is not good looking. If you think that, what purpose does it serve to lay it out in your comments? You may mean well in the greater context, but suppose she sees these comments. Do you want to add to her heartache? I think she is adorable. I loved her soft brown curly hair with the lights behind her, and I especially liked the short brown sequined dress she wore for the semi…nice set of gams, why not show them off?
I also must say I wasn’t feeling so much sorry for her at the finals, as I was crying and feeling her pain and disillusionment, as though I was there, just as some of you were I’m sure.
Piers, I would like you to pass on to Simon, a request I think we all would appreciate………… A DVD, not just a CD, and an album….. I love to watch her when she’s singing.I love her expressions and gestures. Also want to know when and where she will be in the States.
Simon was right when he said she would always wonder “what if” had she not participated in the final. We want her back, but on her terms, and when she’s ready. You and Simon will be sure of that. Susan, There will always be creeps out there(some on this site too-if the shoe fits, wear it). Remember, the folks like me who are absolutely gobsmacked(never heard that term until you used it)out-number the creeps a “million to one”. Sounds like a song there?! Get your strength back, as well as your faith in humanity. Here in the States, most of us are worth it; Can’t say the same for GB and it’s tabloids. I hope Piers is right, that it will turn around. The best thing is do not read the newspapers, or watch the news. Let Simon provide it, until your hide is as tough as an elephants, sorry, don’t mean literally. I love you and your magnificent gift. I think I love Simon too. I thought he looked on the verge of tears at Susan’s final performance. He knew she was singing exactly what she was feeling.

Dear Mr. Morgan:
I have never done this sort of thing before. I do not watch TV, as I work at 2 jobs 7 days a week (courtesy of my ex-husband, who flitted off to Costa Rica with my money and his new wife). But a friend sent me the youtube video of Susan Boyle’s first audition, and I have been captivated ever since. I confess that my first joyful moment was seeing the smirks on all your faces disappear as she sang, and the look on your face was the most poignant and genuine. Thank you for reminding us that we are all human beings. Since then, it has become obvious that you are Susan’s biggest supporter and closest confidante in all this chaos.
In the wake of all that has happened, may I say that I believe you are a very caring person, and a nice man to boot. I know that I (if I had any talent) could not possibly have withstood the pressure Susan went through over the past several weeks. Your support of her is incredibly inspiring. It has been a joy to look at your response each time she sang. And now, your spirited defense of Susan is even more appreciated.

I was so sorry to learn that Susan was in need of medical attention over the weekend. These past weeks, since her audition performance, had to have been very stressful and exhausting. The media needs to give her the time and space she so deservedly needs to come to grips with all that has happened to her in the past weeks since she attained global recognition. I hope she is able to sort all of this out and find someone to represent her who is trustworthy and will look out for her better interest. This whole fiasco should be a wake-up call to a all of us. Piers, I’m not a Brit and am not based in the UK but have been following Britain’s Got Talent and Susan Boyle. I was overwhelmed by her audition and while I loved many of the acts featured, was rooting for her. I’ve not had the privilege of knowing her but I believe she is a special person with a most generous and trusting soul. Knowing how brutal the press can be, I had a premonition that she would experience a backlash and when it did happen in the last week of BGT, I felt for her. I am happy that Diversity won - they are a lovely and telented bunch of lads. I just wish Susan had been given a level playing field - minus the taunts and harrassment she was clearly ill-equipped to handle.
I am touched by your kindness to Susan - you seemed to be deeply affected by her first performance and you gave her the support that she needed. I hope she will emerge from the Priory stronger than ever. Do give her our well wishes. She IS much loved.

I do hope Susan is tougher than we think.Because: there is really no place known to the media she can hide anymore.
She cannot return to her home and her family and Pebbles in Blackburn She will not be safe there anymore. The Internet has exposed her to millions who love her but to nutters as well. Unfortunately that’s what we share the world with.
It is unfair I think to tar& feather Simon Cowell he is just a very very successful business man.He could not have seen this tsunami coming he was caught on the back foot too.He has done his best to handle it.Frankly I admire his handling of the whole thing via Piers Morgan..
Open a pub and use her own security? one of her fans have said .Involve her family in it? Her brother is already touting his own label. Please!
The best thing for Susan Boyle is to stay close to Simon Cowell.I am sure he can figure out the best way to protect her and to look after her musical career. If he still wants to take her on she will be very fortunate. At this rate she could prove to be a liability.
Rather than vilify Simon I would congratulate him if he has already tee ‘d up a contract for her in the USA. And hope that his words spoken in his judgement still hold true.He adores her, for the kind sweet person she truly is.She will be very fortunate if he truly does.More than anyone else she needs him now.

I like you Piers and I feel you are doing what you can to help Susan. But lately I’ve been thinking a lot of us have missed the depths of this woman’s vulnerability and that she really may be susceptible to a very serious emotional and mental breakdown. Her circumstances would try anyone’s ability to cope, but I’m thinking of her rather brittle insistence on being upbeat and generous and “sassy” and especially her denial of negativities, like insisting that she’s among friends or that she “knows nothing” about what Simon was apologizing for. It’s been taken for inner strength but I think it’s more a shy insecure person’s coping strategy and under real pressure that sort of thing gives no real security. I’m really wondering if she will be able to rally any time soon. I don’t blame anyone but I think she needs to have people around her who don’t fall for this “inner strength” idea or her denials of problems and so on, but try to provide her with support and comfort and familiar surroundings and don’t leave her alone much. She’s got a fantastic wonderful voice. I hope she can have the career she’s always wanted but I’m starting to worry for her. Thanks for caring about her. Sorry for writing so much.

Hi Piers,
Now I got it. I’ve seen you on America’s Got Talent, and I thought what on earth is a proper sounding Brit doing in a zany American show. We don’t get BTG here but your show has uncovered real and unique talents.Paul Potts, little George Sampson (wow!), now Susan Boyle, and may add Shaun Smith.
Glad to hear that Susan is doing well. You guys better look after her well or the world will be upon you. I discovered her earlier recording of “Cry Me A River,” what can I say? And as for Shaun Smith, it is his natural (authentic as Simon calls it) voice that really strikes me. I can’t imagine a 17 year old singing Ain’t No Sunshine, doing it with a lot of “soul”. When I play Susan and Shaun on you tube, I turn off the screen, and just listen.
Congrats to Diversity (amazing routine), Julian, and the rest. Yes, when there’s so much cr…p happening in this world today, nice to see real people making other people happy.

I have seen your handlings of the media regarding her and I commend you.
May she rise above her critics with the help of friends like you and continue to share her voice with us.

Susan lives alone .. except for a brother that I read she visits every month, she practically has noone to turn to. No children and no parents to lend support when the criticisms piled on .. That is hard especially for her who has never being exposed to this much attention and publicity.
Friends and neighbours, as we all know, are not always there for you. For instance, I heard some of her neighbours portraying her as a “Rambo”.
If I had to live alone in as poor , and I pressume, as rough a neighbourhood as she has, I would be a “Rambo” too. You almost have to be one just to survive. It is not easy to live alone your entire life, after being “bullied” in your young days and being not blessed with the “pop star” look that others are blessed with. She is someone who has had to face “ridicule” her entire life, including, mind you, on the GBT show before she started singing
You are right. It probably is the best thing for her that she did not win the BGT show. Now, the media can, hopefully, move on and leave her alone.
Susan, we are all for you … Hopefully, she can have a “good cry” and let everything out of her system … and refocus. Come together Susan … you can do it … The “h*ll” with the media and everything anyone says …
Susan, you owe it to yourself and to everyone who truly love you … your mother, for example, to pull through. You did not come this far, gone through this much in life, to be brought down by total strangers for that is what the media is ….
I want Susan to succeed so much that I have to pen this on your blog … I believe Susan is strong enough inside that when all the madness settles down, she will be that much “stronger” for it. She will return like a “roaring lion” … Cherish what you have succeeded to do, Susan … You have everything to be proud of.
Thanks for reading my 2 cents worth.

Piers I don’t know if you read thise comments or not but I have to say my opinion of you and Simon Cowell and especially you has changed since the end of the show BGT. I saw the today show interview you did and think you are a class act for being a friend to Susan and sticking up for her and I hope you will continue to be one.
I watched the whole BGT series on the internet and I thought she did a beautiful job in the final and was disappointed she didn’t win but as you said it may have been the best thing that happened to her not to win.
I hope she decides to record because I will buy her cd’s in a heatbeat but if she doesn’t that’s okay too.
Tell her she has ”millions” of fans around the world that wish her nothing but the best no matter what she decides to do.

Dear Mr. Morgan:
I have never done this sort of thing before. I do not watch TV, as I work at 2 jobs 7 days a week (courtesy of my ex-husband, who flitted off to Costa Rica with my money and his new wife). But a friend sent me the youtube video of Susan Boyle’s first audition, and I have been captivated ever since (I have had vocal training, but have seldom used it). I confess that my first joyful moment was seeing the smirks on all your faces disappear as she sang, and the look on your face was the most poignant and genuine of all. Thank you for reminding us that we are all human beings. Since then, it has become obvious that you are Susan’s biggest supporter and closest confidante in all this chaos. This little lady deserves some support, and you seem to be providing it.
The lady who shares your life is an amazingly lucky one. And Susan Boyle is so fortunate to have you as a mentor and friend. I will be at the front of the linef to buy her first CD, and I wish you all the best always.

It just breaks my heart that Susan has been through so much just trying to live out her dream. I absolutely loved her from the moment she began to sing. I am glad that you have been a real friend to her and hope that you continue to be. She is a very rare individual, one with honest to goodness talent AND a beautiful spirit. I too took care of my mother for years before her death and I admire her for that.
I can’t stop thinking of her and praying that she gets completely well and is able to realize her dream. I wil definitely buy her first album! Please tell her that we love her and wish nothing but the best for her. Such a sweet lady.
Thank you, Simon and Amanda for being so nice to her, especially you, Piers. She needs a good friend.

I am worried about her going on this BGT tour as well. I hope you are making changes. It’s well known that Susan is a world wide star. It’s not like anything you have ever had experience with before on BGT so it makes sense that rules have to change. I’m honestly not sure she is Britain’s star. I may have that all wrong. If so, I am very sorry, but from what I seen in that audience during the final it seems she is more loved by the world, and most definitely Scotland, than Britain as a whole. I hope you consider that and decide not to put her on a stage that may be hostile to her. She may take that as meaning everyone is against her and LORD what a horrible shame that would be. She needs to be in an audience where the people there have bought tickets to see and listen to Susan Boyle. She will pack those audiences, and they will show her true appreciation. BUT, maybe she doesn’t even want to do that now. Maybe she will just want to go into a recording studio with only a few people there and cut CDs. If that’s what she wants to do she would sell millions of them.
To those people criticizing her for singing her audition song at the final, I am from America and never seen BGT before in my life before Susan but I know Paul Potts also sang his audition song for the final, as George Sampson did the same dance routine for both audition (maybe it was the semi) and final. Shaun Smith also sang his audition song for the final. I have to assume that maybe this is the rule and if people withheld votes from her for that reason well they are a bunch of selfish uneducated people living there. They were just hoping to hear that great voice give them another FREE gift. Furthermore, her final was a completely different version of the same song. It was done just exactly how it is written for the play of Les Mis. She did something fantastic with this final version that I think many people missed. She combined “acting” with her wonderful singing ability to get the play song effect. This song when sung according to the play is not a happy song and Susan nailed it in that final. For her to do that in this short amt of time means she had to have been working very very hard to get the acting and singing down that good.
I wish Susan the very best and hope your press over there will leave her alone but maybe that is another reason why she should come to America and get away form them. they are out to destroy her and maybe they won’t stop until they really do. I thought the press in America was bad but it’s not as bad as there. Shame on them for what they are doing to this good and very nice human being. She is far more human than they could ever hope to be. In fact, I have animals who are more human than they are.

Dear Piers,
Notwithstanding the tremendous pressures and the horrendous media attention, I think that Susan needs some much needed R&R after all that she’s been through the last 7 weeks. She just needs time to herself to gather her thoughts together and not think about anything else except to get well.
You have been her champion and a friend indeed. Please continue to keep in touch with her and let her know that she is not alone and she is in our thoughts and prayers.
I hope that plans for her to tour with the BGT group is cancelled. She does not need more hype and attention right now and to mandate her to proceed with the tour I think will only aggravate her already fragile emotional state of mind and health.
We all want what is best for Susan but more importantly, it is what Susan thinks is best for herself. As an adoring fan, I too feel for Susan and wish her well.
Susan, sometimes the road we travel is not always smooth. There are bumps along the way and sometimes treacherous conditions and detours. But, don’t let that discourage you and never be afraid because the Lord will take care of you every step of the way if you let Him. Just trust in Him and He will see you through no matter how difficult the journey may be. Take courage Susan and know that the Lord is on your side always.

Dear Piers,
Oh Thank-you for your continued and most sincere support of Our Precious Susan….When God made Susan he threw away the mold…Now it is up to us to enjoy and protect that most precious Gift..This is how I feel:
God Gave us a Gift named Susan Boyle
We Opened the Gift
WE embraced the Gift for 7 weeks
We then threw away the Gift to the Wolves!
The Wolves meaning the Vile Criminal Rat infested
Tabloids…
I never believed a word of that vile Rubbish that was printed about Susan…Susan has a very Loyal and Protective Fan Base around the World…
The love affair began when we Heard that Beautiful
Clear Amazing Voice that seem to penetrate our very Souls…..When I saw how fast the appeal of Susan was spreading around the world, I was concerned early on that this might be a bit too much for Susan…It seems to me since BGT put her out there for us to find it should have been their utmost priority when she went to London for the competition to make sure this innocent woman was protected from the Scumbags…She is from a small
village and not exposed to that type of thing.
But you didn’t and look at the result…Please Piers tell Simon not to send her on that BGT Tour.
I have seen others make the same appeal to you
That is the worst thing she needs now…She needs rest, a proper diet, music, maybe someone could even give her a spa treatment with pedicure and manicure…She also needs for you and Simon to tell her the world loves her and didn’t believe a word of that Rubbish printed about her…Those papers are for the bottom of bird cages so the poop can land on them… I can wait for her CD my main concern right now is for her well-being.
Before Susan I never heard of BGT, Piers, Amanda, Ant, Dec, Simon(knew him from AI) You all have become famous because of Susan…Maybe not Simon though…LOL…..I am not one to be a fan of any celebrity but I soon became a Loyal fan of Susan..
Susan’s appeal was instant because she is just so adorable…I fell for the whole package…Naturally her singing draws you in but then you get to love her for being Susan…She has a Broad Fan Base in the States and would love for her to come but only when she is ready and really wants to…If you see her please tell her we love her..We are her FRiends and very Loyal Friends…
She needs good people around her to support her and also make sure her interests and goals for herself are the top priority….Thanks again Piers for sticking up for Susan and being a friend indeed.

Piers,
Thank you for your defense of and support of Susan.
You said Susan’s dream wasn’t to win a contest but to launch her career. But she also said she wanted to sing for the Queen. I hope she gets that opportunity.
Susan had every reason to hope she would win the competition, and “hope deferred makes the heart sick”. Her intense disappointment is not a surprise.
She has also suffered disappointment of the hope she would be generally loved and respected if she were “successful”. While she is loved by many, being well known also exposes her to the hate of many. The hope of finally being treated as well as any other person has been disappointed.
I have a number of friends who, like Susan, have a “handicap”. Unfortunately many “normal” people aren’t able to relate to these people with respect and consideration.
I have seen my friends mistreated and abused by supposedly “normal” people. Others who don’t abuse them tend to avoid or marginalize them. But each of the friends I can think of right now have much to offer when they are given the respect and encouragement they deserve.
How many gifted people would the world enjoy the talents of if we were more able to look beyond their handicaps and differences? How many years could we have enjoyed Susan’s tremendous talent if she had not been rejected so long for superficial reasons?
Ever since hearing Susan sing, and finding out more about her, I have wished I knew her personally. I can’t be sure, but I think we would have a lot of fun together.
Susan,
Even though I can’t claim you as my friend, I wish I could. Since I can’t be there for you, I do what I can–what many others have been doing–I have been praying for you since mid-April, and I will continue to pray for you.
Thank you for sharing your talent. I pray it would be a blessing for you, and God would protect you. There is one friend who is always close, may you find His blessing when others let you down.
Will America treat you better? People are the same everywhere, some nice, some not so nice. Your value is not in how well you perform or how well people treat you. You are precious and of great worth no matter what.
Bless you. May you be smiling again soon!

Now she is devastating, and who would not? She needs your support as no one else does. If we may ask you - please, do not leave her, help her to feel proud of herself again. Do not kill her dream. Everybody aroud says she will be a millionaire, but money is nothing when the soul is suffering bitterly.

Enjoyed reading your column for the first time. I think it was good she didn’t win. Hope the clinic helps her cry it all out (the joy, the tension, the fear of failure, etc.) so her mind gets refreshed. I can’t wait for her first album…and if she ultimately decides not to perform in public she can simply keep doing albums. She deserves to enjoy her magnificent voice without suffering; we deserve to be able to purchase and enjoy them. And why not some web concerts? She could invite a few friends for the live concert - but we’d get to see her live, too. THANKS FOR YOUR KINDNESSES TO HER. We fans appreciate that!

This wonderful lady has been emotionally brutalized time and time again throughout her life- first in her own village by children and adults alike, then by the media and those who at first embraced her and then were willing to immediately believe anything negative placed out there. Can you imagine how she must have felt the night of the finale with a number of people in the audience booing her? What had she done to deserve this? Susan is a loving, kind, immensely talented woman whose brain damage at birth gave rise to a learning disability, but as a number of people have suggested, most likely has caused her to be a high-level functioning autistic; she does exhibit a number of symptoms that would support this, and certainly would explain her sometimes unusual behavior and responses. The public and press seem to have mistaken her behavior as “diva”-like, when, in actuality, it was the response of at least a borderline-autistic individual. I read of several responses -some where Piers was involved- that would fit this diagnosis. And if she did run down the hall after she’d lost as was reported. That, too, would fit (although the pressure and cruel press could have been the catalyst). In no way was it being a “poor loser”.
This does not to imply by any means that she cannot wind up with a good, patient understanding man who truly appreciates her, or not be successful in a singing career. What she needs is to be surrounded by people who understand and truly care about her and are not looking at her as a commercial enterprise.
And for anyone who equates autism with lack of intelligence, Einstein is now thought to have had a form of it. Its sufferers are at both ends of the spectrum. It appears that Susan is undiagnosed- or at least this possibility isn’t being divulged.
Piers, if you do visit her, please let her know that her worth isn’t measured by winning BGT (I believe I heard her say something to that effect), or her inspirational voice, either, for that matter; in God’s eyes it is measured by the kindness and service she has rendered for so many years, both to her mother and those for whom she volunteered.
Piers, when I heard her sing in the finale, I didn’t hear the “first” Susan- I saw hurt and exhaustion and when she ended with “life has killed the dream I dreamed” it sounded all-too-convincing; if you didn’t catch this. just go to youtube and compare the last line in both performances- it brought me to tears.
I pray that much joy is in store for that precious soul.

Hi there Piers!
Must tell you that this is the first time that I’ve succumbed to blogging..a direct result of my stress over the entire Susan saga.
Now that it’s all over I am starting to put my emotions aside in order to face reality.
1. As someone so rightly pointed out-Susan didn’t lose she was runner up and I tend to agree, even though she was obviously (and rightly so) disappointed, that this is probably the best thing that ever happened to her as now she can concentrate on what she was born to do..SING without (hopefully) being forced to live in a goldfish bowl.
2. Re going on tour - this should be her decision alone. She obviously needs some rest but that will not be forever. She “dreamed a dream” and her dream has come true and if she truly still wishes to be a professional singer then the show must go on. As I see it the key point for her future is what sort of tempo will she have to face i.e too much too fast may be damaging to her.
3. All along the way you have been extremely supportive of her for which I (together with millions of others) thank you.

Good Gosh! Am I the only person that has totally lost interest in Britains Got Talent (excuse me, aside from Susan Boyles and Piers)??? It is so sad to see and hear (even if only half true) what the media (sorry, but the show did indeed benefit too) has done to this woman. WHY?? Understand monetary gain, etc. But why did they allow her to be ridiculed and harrassed?? Surely, there must be some type of ‘privacy coverage’ in contract of the show’s legal “sign here”. It is sickening what hell she has been through…and merely for singing well without makeup…ohhh, how many women look good without makeup?…Come to think of it…How many MEN on camera look good without the makeup??
I hope and pray that woman survives this and reigns as the star she is. Can’t wait to hear her with elaine Paige! You go, Susan!

with the sort of non support she gets from family, no wonder she has always felt worthless. The last week of the press attacks must have been like the world telling her she is worthless and no good.
My jaw dropped when i read yesterday her brother John was in london but “BGT bores me, so i spent the evening at a neices, a deliberate decision there were other youngsters to support susan” (i assume referring to another niece and nephew) WOW. gerard, he who never even watched her audition the night it aired, stayed in scotland too. Haven’t heard of her sisters coming down.]
No wonder she broke under the weight of it, i think that would have been the straw that broke my back. Immediate family being to bored to come and watch the night that could make or break me. My biggest fear is that one of these grasping harpies will try and get power of attorney over her. Piers..if she wants to record and sing, make Simon protect her from her family. If she wants to share with them thats fine, but don’t let them run her.
She has a temper, obviously, (wry smile) so do many of the best in the business. She is a sweet lovely lady who deserves all the fame available to her.
I pray Simon is not going to back down because she needs a little more care than some until she gets her feet under her fame. I want her signed, i want her singing. All of course if it is what she wants but since it is what gives her confidence i can’t imagine she doesn’t.

Why have they not brought Pebbles to Susan???
Following was in the press today:
“She is extremely devastated. She has had a taste of stardom, and it has opened up the pain and emotional longing that she has been through the last 48 years,” said Dr. Gershen Kaufman, a psychologist from Michigan.
The Scottish singing sensation had to be calmed by medics after breaking down and crying for Pebbles on Sunday.
Kaufman said Boyle is now clinging to the only thing she believes has stayed loyal to her.
“I suspect her cat is her emotional teddy bear. Her pet has been her only companion and her best friend,” the doctor said. “It is what has kept her stable and functioning all these years, so it is very important that she is reunited with it to aide her recovery.”

She needs you. She’s wonderful — the public be damned. When she makes an album you know I’ll be standing in line to buy one; not because of the furor caused by her wonderful talent, but the stupidity of the public. Who will be standing in line with me?

Firstly my i congratulate Diversity for winning they well deserved it, though so did susan boyle, in my eyes she is a winner too, In a way I think it was best for Susan to come second as it will give her time to recrupriate from all the stress she has been under, considering she has come from a quiet town/village and never had media coverage as much as she has.
I hope the media will allow her plenty of time to reflect on what she has acheived in a short space of time. Who knows how any of us will react with the same amount of media coverage she has had.
Please remind Susan to take it one step at a time and I’m sure we will see her for many years to come.
Please look after her well, and tell her not to take any notice of any bad press. (even though that’s easier said then done).
Lastly I need to apollogise to you Piers for spelling your name wrong last time.
All my best to susan.

Let’s set the leg showing and hip ‘wiggling’ aside.
We’ve seen worse.
Susan passed the audition. She walked off and had no idea what was next.I’m sure she assumed that was it.
THen she was equally surprised she won the semi final and went onto the final. This is when the hype for BGT hit the peak. For us,she won second place and for whatever reason-maybe ONLY because people assumed and didn’t call in-didn’t win first.Maybe to us it was a matter of winning.Perhaps to Susan all the build up was an affirmation about her and as we know she got this close. She must have known all the terrible things in the press, the booing from the audience etc. and that was a real kick in the pants to her as a person. And then that final moment and all the hopes for the win-which she MUST have had-and the really really big slap in her face.
They announce Diversity. She may(or may not have)felt sincerely what she said.IF she actually meant it what she must have been saying underneath was that she DIDN’T make it.
How could she NOT take that personally?
Susan was not a ‘diva’.She didn’t have enough time in her life or the circumstances to become a diva.
Susan may be a lot of things but i doubt she pictured herself as some ‘diva’.
SOME of the public got that perception for themselves. IMHO it says more about them, than about her. As far as the other ppl she encountered through this, for lack of a better way of putting it,ordeal we don’t know that she felt betrayed by some of those folks as well.
I’m not saying feel sorry for her-let’s just get a grip on what has taken place.
This is a 40,almost 50,some yr old woman who was never married. She was ridiculed for MOST of her life.
She has no boyfriend. No husband. She lost both her parents.
What’s she got? Her cat.
And now after all this-believing there were people she could count on-gets incredibly accepted and lifted up only to be incredibly shot down.I do mean incredibly and who knows of all the people she did meet who was really her friend or who just used her?
To be honest she may have been better off to lose in the semi final and have ONLY that to recoup from.Theo outcome of the final was horrid.I don’t know that knowing all of us care is going to make any difference at all.She may just have to get herself put back together and go back to her old life with some feelings intact.
We may have to let her go and hope she is happy.
Or,if SHE chooses to go on with her career IF she can.
I wouldn’t be in too big a rush.NONE of us know what the future holds for her.But if she does decide to go back we wish her the best.I can see that picture of her shaking terrible before the winner is announced. She didn’t look well.

What a wanderfull news! My opinion of americans have changed during these last days.

(a side thought;i wouldn’t cross the street to meet Obama let alone be invited to meet him. She’d be better off passing that one up.Sorry.I’d rather meet the Queen).Anyway, that’s an aside.I think her mental health and physical well being are far more important.Who wants their life devastated? I hope she recupts and if she ends up living her quiet private life again.More power to her.As long as she’s happy.

I understand your job as a judge on the show may in trouble for breaking impartiality rules in sticking up/supporting Susan- hope this is not the case as you are by fat the next judge- am hoping you are way to famous to be fired this time!.
Thanks for a great show.
PS Your kids looked like they were having great fun at the wrap party- am envious!! Hope you didnt embarass them to much!.

I hope that Susan knows how much the world loves her and that she didn’t disappoint people. We will buy her music. I hope people are telling her these things so her spirits are lifted. don’t get me wrong.Susan has an incredible voice.
THe way i’ve heard it most often described is the voice of an angel.
She has a wonderful style onstage that she can develop. If all those ppl who wanted to call in would have called in-she certainly was the winner.
Hands down. Haven’t seen talent like hers in ages.
BUT,and there is a but,her mental and physical well being take precedence.
She will still be incredibly talented and gifted no matter what. On a personal level it may be that she will have to recover and put all this behind her.I hate to say this-it remains to be seen. It’s either going to be a dream come true or a nightmare that’s ended.
i say that with genuine heart felt love(agape).
She was the Winner even if she never beleives it.
If only ppl had called in.Still, her life isn’t over if she chooses to go back to her former life.
We shall see.

Piers, You knew Susan had a school girl type crush on you, she who has never had a boyfriend and has led a very simple life, and you seemed to lead her on, inviting her to a romantic dinner, jesting with Simon that she liked you more, laughing and applauding when she called you Piersy Baby, talking about her kiss to you back stage. I think you were making sport of her, I doubt you had the type of feelings for her that she has for you. I don’t think she is savvy enough to understand it was just a bit of a laugh for you. Now you come accross as a caring supporter, which may be genuine, but I think you have added to her pain.

Susan, I hear our new President has invited you to sing for Independence Day. I can see in your eyes what a strong woman you are, so get better girl, get feisty…you need to practice “America the Beautiful” or “This is My Country” or the “Star Spangled Banner.”
Your happy days are just beginning, Susan, I promise. Don’t let anyone bully you around. Make your choices with trusted family and counsel. Take it slow and easy. It’s one thing to have a dream come true, but what good is THAT if you’re not having any fun?
Piers, I had no idea who you were until Susan blasted on the scene, and the only thing I knew about Simon was that he was cocky and mean. I admire you both now for acting like real MEN in what I sure hope is genuine compassion and caring for our rising (albeit temporarily freaked-out) star.

I have a question about Susan Boyle, possibly like others. When you first met with her to join your show did you not know that she would probably have a hard tome of it after coming from a sheltered and quiet life? It does not look like much consideration or respect was given her. This woman has gift and a beautiful way about her that is so real. I believe all of you took advantage of her down a path she could not possibly pass through with out support.
Susan is not one of your typical 20 year olds or dance groups that will go away in a New York minute. I have little respect for what was done to her.
I hope she will find a good and kind producer that won’t take advantage of her to the future.
Right now, all comments coming from your show and the press need to stop so Susan can hopefully regain what she has lost. Leave her be and let her get well. When she is ready she will do what is best for Susan not what other’s think.
The producer’s pf your show and the press have made a mess of things….that is a certainty.

Susan Boyle's fan says
We all know that Susan is a talented singer with a beautiful voice, and she so deserve to win the title in the BGT contest. The fact that she came in 2nd does not mean that she lost. It is all base on # of votes, not how good the performer is. It is the same in American Idol, Adam Lambert should have been the winner, he is so talented and versatile, but the title went to the other guy. But Adam Lambert will become more successful as a recording artist, will sell more CDs than the actual idol. As far as I can see, Susan Boyle is already a winner, and she can have a successful career out of this competition. All she has to do is seize the moment and money will be rolling her way, but to Susan it is more than the money and winning, it is the recognition and acknowledgement from other people that she is not worthless as people thought she is and she does have something to offer (she said that in one of her interviews).
“Bluewren”, I notice that you always make observant comments, you have the ability to put things in prospective than most other people I see commenting on this blog. I am amazed that so many of you are so impressed with Piers, thanking him for taking care of Susan. I at first was impressed with Piers but slowly I can see that he is only looking after his own image. To put his name next to Susan Boyle, giving her high praises, offering her a dinner date in public, defending her (I am wondering if he is sincere) while others attack her etc will make him look like her knight in shinning armour. After Susan sang her song in the final, Piers had to remind Susan that she had “cracked up”, “boiled over” repeating those awful things that the tabloids wrote about Susan. You could see on Susan’s face that she was not pleased and she rolled her eyes at one point, and she responded non-verbally by putting her enitre hand on her face and a hand on her neck. I don’t know what the gesture mean, but I don’t think it is a good gesture. Did Piers have to do that?. Not really. He simply only have to say that her perfomance was great and leave it as that. Off course some of audience booed when Piers said that Susan would be a winner in the competition. It was totally the wrong thing to say. It was Amanda and Simon who both save the day for Susan. Amanda said Susan did it for Scotland and Britain. Simon was right when he gave Susan credit to go on stage and proved to her critics when she gave that beautiful performance. He also reminded the audience that Susan was not the person the press had portrayed, but he got to know her as the nice shy person from her village. It was as if he was trying to correct the tarnish comment that Piers gave. Simon is a more sincere person than Piers, yes he is totally into money, but he has never put on that pretentious fake front like Piers had. And about the dinner date that Piers offered to Susan, it will never happen because Piers had no intention of honouring it, he merely offered it for drawing attention to himself. And since when has he become the spokesperson for Susan Boyle? It is always him saying this and that about Susan, but we never hear about what Susan actually say or think. Yes she was quite smitten with Piers at first, but I think she has pobably finding out his true colours now. And to the people who thinks that Piers is good for Susan, he has been using her for publicity. I hope Susan WILL NOT GO for the dinner date even if Piers honour it, which I doubt he will.
I think Susan will come out fine after she gets her rest and I agree with one person that commented that Simon is the best person to look after Susan’s career, for now at least. At least she will the chance to have a singing career to start. She should use Simon’s connection to get a jump start. I wish Susan all the best as she is a very good person and a great singer. Susan if you get to read this, I mean it, SUSAN YOU ARE NOT WORTHLESS, YOU HAVE A LOT TO OFFER.

Two Things ~
1). On Susan Boyle’s “supposed” learning difficulties ~
How many people do you and I know, whether in the spotlight or not, have the most atrocious sense of things basically amounting to no common sense or worthwhile comprehension at all?! Couple this with how many of these so-called “well” individuals fall down time after time with booze, drug, sex and overall dependency addictions while shining a calculated halogen pinlight on their sheepskin hanging in the entry hall for your adoration? I would be safe to say more times than should be acceptable. And yet, for this gracious {and that is another impossible feat for most people to accomplish} woman, who apparently has not had the benefit to freely choose along the way, both physically and emotionally, she seems to be doing D-mn Well!!! No addictions haunting her steps, no scandals marring her past, a path, though not paved in “gold”, nevertheless has always carried the ability to let her put one step in front of the other in order to care unselfishly and with clear heart and mind for other people and their circumstances when others would have said, “what about me?”. How many people do we know that have this dedication, conscience for selfless serving and just plain old COMMOND DECENCY OF BOTH THE MIND AND HEART? Not many in my family nor Heads of State, and probably not many in yours. I feel such an understanding bond with the women. I, who have always been blessed with good health and no financial cloud of any magnificent proportion ever over my head, thus far ~ I understand how a lifetime of so-called chances can wiz by when influenced by the memory of childhood bullying, early family responsiblities left-over from the death of a parent, the subsequent guilt and conscience that does not permit one to turn away and carry on in a purely selfish manner, the ageing of remaining parent/grandaparent, and the life you are left with when all of these chapters finally reach their close in the mid-point of your life. Everyone else around you seems to have avoided the obligation, but not you. So here you find yourself for a short time thereafter continuing to live the life that has actually disappeared, but little by little you get a hang of thinking solely of your own path for the first time, a task not as easy as it sounds. Couple this transformation with being on BGT and you have quite a plate to deal with. Pebbles? ~ Well, I have five. Do not underestimate nor disparage the love and healing that our pets employ. They are not just another creature of a happenstance universe. Pets are divine messengers who have a direct link and understanding of the divine plan we fail to believe is really there. Do they take the place of people? They do not take the place of anyone or anything because they are separate and apart from every other creature, but they are equal in spirit and worth. If a cat happens to be the blessing of the day, give great thanks to God from whence it came. Susan Boyle seems to love people and has an ease in communicating with them. She spoke to MILLIONS of people on the BGT stage with absolute joy and with no previous experience to enable her to do this so magnificently. I believe she wants nothing better that to be treated like everyone else and not with kid gloves. Yes, she is learning the hard way ~ an unbelievably meteoric shot into a complex but nevertheless rewarding world. She has earned her place there and we should not be judging this minor occurrence of R&R as anything other than a fledgling eagle getting its wings. Stand back and let her soar!
2). I think Mr. Morgan deserves everyone’s worry instead of Susan Boyle. Here is a gentleman who innocently offered Susan Boyle a wonderful night out on the town, and he now finds himself with a bunch of prying mama’s, granny’s and Aunt Dottie’s chaperoning his every move with Ms. Boyle, who I believe is more shrewd a woman than you give her credit for. Poor Mr. Morgan now finds himself at the “family dinner” asking for the daughter’s hand, when all he did was plan to take someone to good meal and not sign-up for a mail-order-bride. How charming to describe it as a “date”, although I do not really remember him using that word exactly. But, nevertheless, again ~ do you really believe that Susan Boyle understands this to be a hint to start choosing the ring? How ridiculous! And, again, this goes back to my first point which is to say that we are giving Susan Boyle absolutely no credit for the clear and discerning thought she is completely capable of. I wish everyone would stop treating this as some sort of proposal and let this innocent dinner take place with NO PRESSURE. If you care about Ms. Boyle, and Mr. Morgan moreover, remove the topic from your conversation. Let it be and go worry about your own kids!

Susan needs to know that she won the singing division of BGT- she wanted to be a singer and she placed first in that area…. Diversity wanted to be a dance team and they placed first in that area. That she lost the overall vote only means the moreso [however slight] chose to have a dancing team win the competition…perhaps BGT can encourage Susan with the following…”Susan we want to consider the possiblity that Elaine Page herself may not have won this particular competition…but would that have stopped her from having a great music career ? Of course not look at her now

Piers, ever read “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee? It used to be required reading in high schools in America and is about Scout and Jem’s loss of innocence in the segregated mid-century US South. One thing Jem and Scout learned was that it was a sin to kill a mockingbird:
“That was the only time I ever heard Atticus say it was a sin to do something, and I asked Miss Maudie about it.
“Your father’s right,†she said. “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy . . . but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.â€

I have to say.. I had never even heard of you before April 2009. As you pointed out… 100-200 million hits on YouTube means you have been seen 100-200 million times… It breaks my heart to see the happy Susan Boyle in the 1st audition, the scared Susan Boyle in the semi-finals, and the beaten-up Susan Boyle in the Final. I am now a devoted Susan Boyle fan and a Piers Morgan fan. Please make sure Susan is properly taken care of and that she is able to dream her dream. She is absolutely incredible!

My dear Piers: Thank you ever so much for your incredible kindness a few weeks ago in inviting Susan Boyles to dinner in London with you. It was so tender and kind……hardly in keeping with your TV/Celebrity Apprentice persona. I’m a grandma who very much appreciates your intellect, your acid mouth (of which I am accused), and your true gentleman-ness. I wish Susan Boyles every good thing, and look forward to all your appearances.

I, too got swept up by Susan’s song and story. I am sad that she has been so overwhelmed without the best support it place. It looks like things will work out and that she is getting time to rest and do some sorting before she begins her career. She has really has added sunshine to the world and given world wide attention to BGT and its judges, enhancing their visibility and careers. I was glad to hear Piers express some gratitude to Susan which she deeply deserves. I was disappointed in Simon’s comments after Susan’s final performance–It seemed to me that he focused on doubts about her and the triumph over critics rather than thanking her for all she had done for the show, telling her how good she was and giving her some sense of her future.
I also found it curious that a number of people mentioned not being able to get through on the phone to vote for Susan.
I wish Susan a speedy recovery and hope she is beginning to understand how much she has affected so many people. I look forward to her robust health and blossoming career! Thank Susan and all the very best.

Piers:
Thank you for being a REAL friend to Susan.
I’ve read several articles and watched a few videos about Susan today. The media is enjoying discussing Susan’s “learning disability” and her having been “deprived of oxygen at birth…” and has even used the term “antics” in a most condescending context. Frankly, I’m sick and tired of it. How many people on this planet have had difficulties early on (for any number of reasons) learning to compete and survive in our regimented society of automatons?
It is said that Einstein had trouble making change when he rode a bus. Everyone laughed at the poverty stricken Van Gogh who NEVER sold a painting while he lived; he struggled with depression and ended up committing suicide. Now, all the art snobs are clamoring for his work; you can even buy coffee mugs with “Starry Nights” on them. There are countless stories of people who had rough starts, and lived (or died) to prove the entire world wrong.
Susan Boyle is NOT an automaton. She is an artist with an extraordinary ability to deeply move people. She was actually able to KEEP her dream alive - even though her life circumstances very nearly snuffed it out. “Learning disabled?” “simple?” Well, if that’s being “learning disabled” and “simple,” then give me some of it! I’m the same age as Susan. I allowed my dream to die nine years ago. But because of this extremely courageous woman from Scotland, Susan Boyle, I have my dream back now. And I’m going to keep this site going in her honor as long as I possibly can. I am extremely grateful to her.
THE WORLD has tried to kill artists and their dreams since the dawn of time…simply because they’re NOT regimented automatons, and any artist out there knows EXACTLY what I’m talking about.
I was going to put a new video onto our website today with Piers Morgan talking about Susan’s simply needing rest, after which she is eager to make her first CD. However, I chose not to include the video because the British news agency has chosen to show where Susan is recuperating, which I think is wrong. She needs privacy, rest, and prayers.
P.S. Susan’s dream “dead?” President Obama doesn’t think so! She’ll be singing at the White House - possibly for Independence Day (how appropriate).

Piers, We do appreciate your support of Susan, and we feel so much pain for her. Thank you.
My concern is while all the judges went out and partied into the wee hours of the morning, no one was addressing Susan’s reactions/needs. If she had been part of that celebration, she would have felt a “winner” despite second place. But to be sent home to cope and to be with her “handlers” is beyond my imagination. I just don’t get it.

Michele’s Rant on the Media and the Know it Alls regarding Susan Boyle.
IT IS NOT BGT’S FAULT. IT IS NOT BECAUSE SUSAN IS TO “FRAGILE”. IT IS YOUR FAULT MEDIA AND PUBLIC.
I keep seeing excuse after excuse by the very media that tried to destroy her in the last week, and many of the same “commenters” at the bottom of the article are now using the fact she was admitted to the Priory as proof they were right and did not deserve to be there. Laying the blame everywhere but themselves. Susan got the short end of the stick from birth, but she surely got the shortest one in the last 10 days.
People in the media decided to use her and throw her in the garbage. People who use the media are jumping on the band wagon.
First let me give my opinion on the so called “professional” Professor Chris Thompson-the chief medical officer of The Priory. Last night he was quoted as saying she needs weeks of care, and that “Professor Thompson added: ‘I read Susan Boyle was assessed under the Mental Health Act. It implies compulsory admission.
‘It implies there was a degree of personal risk. Secondarily that implies she did not want to come into hospital voluntarily”
EXCUSE ME? Professor Thompson, what happened to patient confidentiality? What happened to medical ethics? How dare you sir, give any estimation of how much time she needs in care and especially let the world know it was an admission under the Mental Health Act. How dare you sir? You don’t even seem to be sure, you said you “read it”. This is a betrayal of any patient in your hospital let alone Susan Boyle. I have no idea how to make a complaint to the UK version of the Physicians ethics board, but please someone do.
Secondly. The media has decided that BGT is somehow at fault for either not weeding her out for psychological fragility, or not doing enough. Three buzzes for THAT

They accuse you all of manufacturing the whole SU-BO thing! I don’t know about that!(as Susan would say) Don’t think you could have predicted anything like this.As for her defeat history will finally reveal the truth behind that one.

continued, i ranted so hard i pressed enter by mistake.
The media were aware within 48 hours of the first audition airing that Susan has had a learning disability, struggled with bullies and otherwise a pretty tough life. I am certain they were also aware she could have a temper when the school kids threw eggs at her door just to goad her into being upset. They did enough digging withing the first 5 days to know this.
They knew she felt rather worthless, her dream was to prove to her mom she could make something of her life. That she was not your typical “overnight star” and did have a few health issues.
Nothing major but certainly enough to caution the most insensitive reporter that maybe a little more care was needed, and at the least get her story out to the public.
Instead..that final week when any finalist feels the worst pressure, they piled it on with venom and vitriol; they exhorted their readers to vote for anyone but susan, they called her the hairy angel, they called her a diva, over rated, a decent voice but nothing special (they are also tone deaf). They magnified a perfectly normal anger at fake reporters - must be fake bc they sure haven’t written about their encounter with the police. put up to it by bookies imo.
They laid the hate on with a trowel, the public ate it up and added more.
Now tell me..a woman who has been bullied all her life for not being able to fit in but has a god given talent that seems to have gotten stronger over the years gets the incredible courage to try again. To go through the whirlwind of publicity that NO star has ever experienced in the time frame and without the being used to media ever. She did it! She even did it on her last night, the finals. Susan is not fragile but it would take the hide of a rhinocerous not to feel as if it wasn’t just the village schoolkids who bullied her as a kid and adult, jeered at her and called her names, but now all of Britain!!!!!!
Of course she was unable to sleep, of course she was devastated and of course she acted out. This was no longer her dream, it was the embodiment of her worst nightmare! the one she lived with all her life times 100. Reading some man she really liked at church talking to the news about it..my goodness! Give me Piers who kisses and tells over that sort of creep betraying her private feelings for someone 2 years ago just to get 5 minutes of fame.
BGT did everything and more that they should have, the only caveat is not fast enough. As soon as the media started on its “lets destroy Susan” game she should have been taken to a quiet place. However that is hindsight, no contestant has ever been in her position before, forget learning disabilities, brain damage or the rest. Those are things that show how incredibly inhuman the reporters are, since they knew of it. The judges and BGT have taken a personal interest in susan that i think is unprecedented. They recognized her need, and she is a wonderful lady getting a terrible break from the media, who has some serious vulnerabilities. In no way does this make her unequipped for fame, as simon said at the finals, she proved that. Unequipped would have been not showing up, not able to sing. She did everything asked of her including a gracious defeat, and when alone, she fell to pieces. How many of us have not done the same when our dreams shatter. I don’t think she realized that she was already going to have all the recordings she wants to do..it was win or it was over in her mind. Both Piers and Simon met with her the two days before the final to help buck her up. Yes there was a part due to ratings, it would have been a disaster without her, but i believe they were genuinely concerned and wanted to give their support. Who wouldn’t…she is pretty amazing and her hip waggles..well they are about the gutsiest i have seen lol. forget inappropriate, she has a sense of humor that helps her release tension.
Susan herself? She showed incredible courage, incredible guts. Yes it was clear something was wrong the night of the finals, but she sung her heart out with a passion. I understand Simon’s tear…she really was living the last stanza that night. It wasn’t just a song, it was the story of her life right then.
Could I have gone on after all of that? Not a chance and i understand Susan because i face my fears like she does, with a bad joke, with a stiff face but i try to get through. She broke down emotionally afterwards. That does not mean she is fragile. It means she is human.
The faster the media realizes its responsibility and the public who sucked up their venom and vitriol then maybe susan has a chance for the very deserved career she should have.

You are a shining example of the glory of God and you lead so many of us to Him, our creator, for when we see you, it is truly an elevating experience, like being in the woods at daybreak. Hi Piers, I read that BGT producers might be investigated. I agree that some things could have been handled better but, kids will cry over loosing at sports, does that mean they shouldn’t play sport? I doubt any show will ever have another situation like Susan’s. Susan Boyle really is one of a kind. I don’t remember any singer who has been able to affect so many people from so wide a population, and we have had computers and the internet for a number of years. I doubt that pshycological tests would have revealed a problem prior to her audition as no one could predict the global sensation she would become. I have a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) and I can assure you I would not have held up as well as Susan did.
On the positive side if there is another Susan out there then I’m sure procedures will be in place to protect from the backlash immediately.

Hello Mr. Piers Morgan,
Never, do I post comments on the Intranet up until now.
I am bloody outraged and will hold my tongue no longer.
Thank you for standing up in defense of “Oor Susan†and taking a firm stance against the media and her critics. I personally would like to thank you for your genuine compassionate support that you have given Susan and sincerely hope you continue to do so.
Susan in my opinion sees you as a loyal genuine friend. Susan I believe does not see herself with you as her suitor as some seem to think. She may have been starved of oxygen at birth as you stated in your blog, but in my opinion she is far from the idiot that some would seem to portray her as. On the contrary she is a down to earth person.
No disrespect intended Mr. Morgan, but I think you know what I mean.
I ran across Ms. Susan Boyle on “You tube†by accident. Before Susan even sang, I totally related and was intrigued by her. Great wee lassie. What character, humility, great sense of humor, courteous, mannerly and yes “WHAT A VOICEâ€. I listened to the video “I dreamed a dream†over 100 times that day (could not turn it off). I play it every morning to start my day (even before brewing my coffee). I play it at work all day long.
I was completely lifted, emotionally moved and completely exhilarated by Susan and her gifted voice. Not to mention the big physically achy heart, the water works and finally the big the exhale. That was the impact.
What an inspiritation! What a feat to capture the hearts, captivate, inspire and acquire admiration by the global community by your mere presence and voice in a single debut.
Even winning BGT cannot hold a candle to that. Susan already won; she won the court of global opinion and certainly does not need a title to prove herself. Please be so kind as to tell her so.
If possible Mr. Morgan can you please get her cat “Pebbles†to her to aid in her recovery.
To the media and the critics who have slandered and badgered Susan to no end. In my opinion you should all be disgusted with yourselves. How the hell do you sleep at night? “There is no right way to do a wrong thing†and boy you all certainly have given that statement new meaning. I am sure you are all very proud of yourselvesïŒ.
A wee word to Susan. “Susan, I wish you a speedy recovery and I am awaiting your first album to be releasedâ€. I have already pre-ordered my copy at http://www.amazon.com website. I think your first album should be aptly named “Oor Susan, “Flower of Scotlandâ€. I also hope you come to the USA for a live concert. The USA adores and loves you Susan.
I was born in Scotland, lived in small neighboring village to Blackburn, but emigrated to the U.S in the 90’s when I was 30. I am just a few years younger that you. I totally relate to your life. Life was tough then and I am sure it still is.
But on a more positive note, you are a little tiger Susan (just like Simon said) and you will emerge from all this crap a stronger person and will have the last laugh once again. Your dream is just beginning not ending.
As for the media and critics who think you’re mental, I laughed at that. They don’t understand that’s just the Scot in you. Breakdown, NO. Tired YES. Who wouldn’t be? Get some rest. As for the reporter who enraged you. If that had been me I would have decked him, no questions asked.
As for the media “F bomb reportâ€. Well if that’s the worst thing you have said in your life then you should be clearly ordained as “Saint Susanâ€.
As Freddie Mercury said Susan“The show must go onâ€.
The world is waiting on you Susan. Wishing you well.

Susan it seems per one of the blogs has been invited to the White House by President Obama himself (Leader of the biggest superpower in the world) on the 4th of July and has seemingly has accepted. Wonderful for Susan! You go girl!
Mr.Piers Morgan.
Can you confirm this please?
I think it would be great if HRH Queen Elizabeth II, Susan being one of her loyal subjects followed in President Obama’s footsteps. She has the power to grant Susan one of her wishes. (I.e. for HRH Queen Elizabeth II to formally Invite Susan Boyle to sing for her whether it is at the Royal Variety Performance or other venue).
Susan wishes were not for money, but to sing in front of a large audience (done) be given the chance to become a professional singer (hopefully in progress by Simon Cowell) and to sing for HRH Queen Elizabeth II
In regards to Susan’s immediate family, support her dream. If she wishes to move forward, then support her all the way. Life is too short.

One thing really blew me: can it POSSIBLY be true that youtube printed the wrong telephone number for voting for Susan? I presume that rumours will continue to fly but if this is true then someone should be hung, drawn and quartered (and I personally offer to do the quartering).
Re update on Susans’ health : from what I read she’s either up,down or sideways. Is there any possiblility of you publishing an accurant update on your website without infringing on her privacy or breaching medical ethics?. As you are well aware -people are concerned and would like to know.

David and Goliath
First of all, sorry for my English, I’m a French Canadian, but I will try to do the best.
Writing is a form of language serving for expressing our ideas, for allowing us to reread them and to correct them to give a personal sense.
This writing is contents which they take seriously by forgetting the packaging which represents us. Big, ugly or nice, nothing appears to it, because only the words can be seen and judged without consequences of this fact. We are the king, containing hidden behind the anonymat of our contents.
Voice is a language doubled by the disability of the cruel visibility of packaging. Contents often lose of their sense and is easily possible to pass to neglect.
Mrs Boyle is these splendid contents which deserves only to make themselves listen without any analysis on the superficiality of his packaging. Ungrateful, ugly, srtange and however so nice, smiling with the innocence of a child.
But the children catch microbes that they put under the magnifier by searching an antibiotic to destroy and kill them. It was the case of this lady who does not any more have the right to live because too old and not as others.
As this minority making law on this planet by displaying their anorexia and their beauty under a ton of coloured butter and every this others in fingers hooked by trying to find the hardest words to put some butter on their bread. Which sadness.
Mrs Boyle gave us a nice performance and for my part, I want to whish her to make a lot of money and to be rather clever to return near her cat and to look all these empty packagings by smiling and by telling himself: dream about your life, perfect people , the ugly woman has so much lived her dreams and thanks you for it.

Piers, you have a very beautiful heart which was evidenced in the way you responded to Susan Boyle.
I loved when you took the stance during the finale that she should indeed win, and you didn’t care if it was wrong that you said that!
However, today I read that you are publicly saying that Flawless should have won, and I don’t understand why you are saying such a thing when Susan is just recovering from this once-in-a- century experience she has been the center of.
To me - the BGT winner should NOT have been who performed best in the finale, but who performed best throughout the entire show. Susan WAS BGT this time around; no one deserved to win more than she.
Thanks for all the loving, kind support you gave her Piers.

I now it was recommended to Susan that she sing her original song for the finals. That may have been a mistake. Had the UTube not been viewed millions of times, it may have been fine. But because everyone was so familiar with her singing that song, a different song would have been great. She still may not have won as I think the many young viewers, all equipped to text vote, etc., probably would still have had final say about the outcome. I will always wonder if Susan would not have become so emotionally distraught had the tabloids not attacked her. Tabloids never learn their lesson even after dire consequences of their actions well known to everyone.

Susan Boyle’s fan-I disagree. I don’t think that Piers is doing all this for his own gain. My opinion is that Piers has a tv persona of being narcissistic and cocky. But I think that the real Piers is a God loving man with a beautiful heart. What Piers has done for the military is to be commended. He genuinely cares for the soldiers. He’s in the minority in Britain. The majority are not respecting their soldiers like we do. Here in the US, we adore our troops even if we don’t agree with why they are where they are. Piers has done a lot for the military including visiting wounded soldiers. A man who is full of himself would not care. I read that he also calls his children every day. I wish my ex husband would do even one fourth of that. I think that Piers also genuinely cares about Susan’s health and well being. I don’t think that the real Piers is anything like his tv persona.

Piers - to the cynics and critics who sneered at her there is no need to ask why, in my humble opinion, and from my life’s experience (and I’m up there!). These exist and always will. Their target is the “flavor of the month” or of the day. By some undeveloped segment of their thinking, others are fair game, and pursued with relish. They get safisfaction (self-validation) from this, and only astute psychiatrists can say way. I try to pay no attention to them. Unfortunately, Susan could not. And I think it is because she set herself the impossible task of silencing all the critics in her life who told her she didn’t amount to much. How wrong they were! But how mistaken Susan was to feel guilty of letting others down when she didn’t win. But given all the hype and the predictions and the amazing reaction to her beautiful voice, she could be excused for getting carried away with others’ opinions - and yes the critics. Those critics past and present put her on the hot spot.
Now, let us all sincerely join our energy in wishing her a good recovery at the Priory. But let us also be realistic, as has been pointed out, this is not a rest home, nor a spa. This new, untested ground for her has overwhelmed her and she needs the good help of the dedicated psychiatrists at the Priory to surmoumt it, to learn to cope with the challenges that her new found fame will present.
My regret is that she cannot be treated in a location close to Blackburn, West Lothian, Scotland. In my view, just hugging her Pebbles would do wonders. (we have programs here where you can take your dog to nursing homes, care homes, to interact with the people there and it is miraculous what that accomplishes). When all said and done, Susan found herself in London, the big city, and I recall how I felt when I first went there from a village in Cumbria. It was overwhelming. Finding oneself four hundred or so miles from home can evoke all kinds of responses - homesickness, fear, depression, a feeling of being on another planet. Add to that the sudden worldwide fame from doing what she has done naturally for years and in the quiet of her home, singing her heart out.
I do hope that her stay at the Priory will be comparatively short. I hope that somehow they can put her in touch with her cat. Perhaps a member of the family can take Pebbles down to London. I am convinced it will produce such a feeling of warmth and familiarity, and love, that she will bounce back immediately. I keep in mind that quiet assurance when she started to sing at her audition. Looking back on it, I think it is remarkable. Who cares what her appearance was? Who cares that the cynics and critics were sneering? She just was herself. And oh how she sang. So here’s to a good recovery Susan, you’ve got a friend in Piers and Simon no matter what those critics say. So run with it. Sing. God bless you.

Piers, you should totally take Ant & Dec with to AGT to host the show.
With BGT’09 popularity and these two guys you can bring AGT up to the next level.
coz honestly, besides whole motivation factor (which for Britain is kinda less mercantilistic), “host/s” factor is pretty big too. and AGT host didn’t impress me at all.
talk simon into it -> it’s win/win solution all around

Hi Piers,
you are absolutely right.
Susan is great.
I cry each time I hear her singing.
She has a very strong emotional intelligence.
I would like that she finds a good author to get well written songs with meaning.
She needs a supportive mentor and to be protected.
Take care,
A.

I do get what Patricia Snow said, and a lot of people feel the same. But you deserve a benefit of a doubt. If you were truly sincere and not playing the good cop, bravo to you: this world and BRITISH PEOPLE do need more people(role model) like you. But if you were; playing the role, may all of these comments change your mind and inspire you to see your true potential (which was a great one) and what you could have done to help this world (and definitely lift up the soul of BRITISH.)

Dear Piers,
Firstly congratulations on the success of the show and what a show it was!
Secondly, I as most of the country wish Susan well and hope that the all her dreams come true in the future.
Finally, I am writing to request your help on a personal quest. Not too long ago I came up with an idea that would be just amazing for the whole of the UK if done right. I feel that Britain’s got talent has made headway in putting the Great back into GREAT BRITAIN and the idea/project/concept that I have has the possibility to push that into practice on a much bigger scale. So much so that I beleive that this has the potential to be one of the biggest things the UK has experienced in decades.
I have given so much thought to this over the last month or so and I really do feel that this is something that Simon might be interested in, actually I feel that he is one of the few people who would be able to manage such a project. However despite daily efforts by phone and letter to his management team to find out who and how I email my document too I keep hitting brick walls.
I wondered if you would consider reading the document and if you think it was worthy of further attention you could maybe pass it on. If you could help in any way it would be very much appreciated.
I think this is another example of what makes Britain great, a regular person with an idea or dream carries on trying to be heard despite knock backs.
I appreciate that the whole world wants a slice of your time at the moment due to the success of the show and your everyday busy schedule, and you must get swamped with so many requests.
My idea does involve the entertainment industry to a degree however it would involve everyone across the nation on so many levels.
Time is critical as due to the scale of the idea there would be much to do, but I think a perfect time to launch this if it were to be given the green light would be 2012 when the world is watching us.
Apologies for taking up your blog space like this, but I am driven in the beleif that this idea will benefit the masses here in the UK and across the globe.
Many thanks and kind regards,
HMC

Piers,
when will you let us know how Susan is doing? just an update to hear that she is smiling again, nothing will keep her down for long she has dealt with mean spirited people for many years and will overcome this too. They are the losers, they did not recognise a star, actually a superstar when they saw one.
We don’t need any private info just to know that she is feeling happier now and looking forward to the next phase of her life. Let her know that we love her and can’t wait to see her with that adorable personality of hers that brings so much joy to us all. Smiling eyes, warm smile and her very gracious spirit, the whole package.
Tell her that we are all looking forward to her visit to the USA, may the days fly by quickly, and may she find the right company to srart recording her music, that lifts everyone up no matter what they are going through.
Susan hope that Almighty God is lifting you up higher and higher every day, making you so much stronger than before and that is saying a lot. You are an amazing woman inside and out, and we all know it. No one else could have done what you did that night, so just rest assured
they have failed miserably to bring you down and believe me they know it now. They brought themselves down only, that will teach them a lesson I hope.
So rise and shine my dear Susan your world of adoring fans await your triumphant return after your rest, you will be bubbling over with the joy of life again soon. God Bless you always…
A big fan

Hi Piers: I see today in the news online that the British Press watchdogs are telling the press today to back off Susan Boyle. Sorry Boys, a week too freaking late.
When I saw that picture of Susan in the back of the car with that ridiculously huge bouquet of flowers, after the final, she looked like a broken soul. She was not even aware she was being photographed looking so sad. I never saw anyone look so sad!
You guys all knew she was stressed BEFORE the final! You even said you knew she was sick, sleepless and even throwing up- why did you or even Simon take her out that night? She was clearly devastated on losing, because of all the two months of hype, I am sure even she felt her “story” would have a fairy tale ending. I saw those boys from Diversity on Larry King last night. Ordinary boys.
Susan is a unique and special woman who has the kind of appeal to people of a Judy Garland or a Marilyn Monroe- also two extremely fragile women.
Get her out of the mental hospital and NOW. As soon as she is ready to travel. It is her worst nightmare times 100- I am certain of it. To go from Center Stage to a MENTAL HOSPITAL –
Tell that shrink from the Priory to stuff it. Unless she is in a straight jacket, she NEEDS TO GO HOME. She can easily get a private shrink at HOME.
I really believe BGT is making sure Susan stays in the Priory until AFTER the BGT tour starts! To give an excuse as to why she is not appearing. You do not need that as an excuse.
I would send this to Cowell, but he has no website that I can find. Do you think her dream is being in a Mental Hospital after all the adulation and hopes? I think not.

I repeat- See if you can get her brothers to sign Susan into their care and get he OUT of that Mental Hospital. She will go home and be in her own bed with her cat and friends. Then, Cordon off her block and do not let one slime ball “reporter” with a camera near her for three months.
She also should have something to look forward to- like rehersing for her CD- not looking at white coats with their shots and sedation meds. Shame.

Simon Cowell is being a generous soul and paying for Susan Boyle’s care when she needs it most. Since we all know that Simon loves to make money and seems now increasingly to want to do the right thing morally, wouldn’t it be nice if he did this: due to Susan Boyle’s inspiration of a middle-aged career launching, OPEN UP THE AGE GROUP to over 24 years-old IN AMERICAN IDOL??? It pays!!! What an example Simon would set in this new economy–definitely a democratic thing, like he was talking about regarding the global viewing of Susan Boyle on youtube. I recall that a middle-aged singer sued American Idol for age discrimination when they first started here in the U.S.A., but he lost his case. That could’ve cost Simon!

Piers, I agree somewhat with Teri, who posted above, but only the part that Susan might be happier at home with private care, in a comfort zone with her friends and family - and Pebbles - than in a hospital. If she is content there then that is fine, but if she really wants to go home for a few days or weeks to be with her friends and family who love her, then maybe she could? I do not agree that she is being kept there by BGT - that’s ridiculous - this isn’t the 18th century, for Heaven’s sake, where people are locked away.
I read the article where Simon told the press to back off - that was great. It’s the press that caused this anyway and the guilty ones should be put out of circulation.
Thank you again for looking after our international treasure. You are a fine gentleman.

Dear Piers you are a special human being…and your support for Susan is admirable. Thank you.
It occurs to me that perhaps our dear Susan’s life has some similarity to that of the “flower seller” in “My Fair Lady” or “Molly” of the “Unsinkable Molly Brown” fame…… just imagine Susan’s potential in that context.
Susan I wish you all the very best and may you get the support you need to manage your incredible rise to fame and that you are empowered by those who truely care about you, in all areas of your life, that you may reach your full potential without being hurt along the way. Don’t give up on yourself or your dream.

I agree wholeheartedly on your comments per Susan Boyle. Decades ago, America had a woman who, like Susan, was not big on looks, but could really belt out a tune. Her name was Kate Smith, whom FDR named “America’s Songbird.” To me, Susan is Scotland’s Songbird and should be regarded as a national treasure.
I’m a big tough guy for sure, but whenever Susan hit that high note in “I Dreamed a Dream”, yeah, I did shed a tear or two… still do even after listening to the video for the hundredth time!
As for Piers, Susan was lucky to have you in her corner to help her through the ridiculous criticism she had to endure from the published ‘rags.’
Give Susan a kiss from me.

This one’s for you, Mr. Morgan; after all, it’s your website. A fan is not a friend. I’m not entitled to any piece of you that is not given by you freely & publicly, or have I the right to micro-manage your public or private life. All I can do is give you honest feedback on what I observe.
I’ve read your Credo, and your own distinction between your public & private personae. To me, the wall between the 2, at least in regards to Susan Boyle, has begun to come down. I saw your initial invitation to Susan as a harmless flirtation to get publicity. Getting publicity is part of your job. So what? You couldn’t gauge her reaction–you hadn’t seen her since the auditions & weren’t even in the same country.
When she kissed you after the semi-finals, your piece on that did an excellent job of damage control. God knows what would have happened if the tabloids had gotten hold of that first. I saw your “Final” video on the BGT website, with the background shot of everyone on the stage. Susan has her arms around your neck, and you are holding her very gently. I have gone through that clip, frame by frame, several times, watching your face. What I see is a man happily speaking to a woman he really cares about. My conclusion: you are capable of loving a woman without having to bed her.
Here are my hopes (not marching orders) for the 3 of you. (Amanda’s already got her American job.) Susan gets to sing for her Queen, before she sings for our President. She gets to sing on stage all over the world. That’s where she feels at home. But the recording studio will give her a chance to get used to a live orchestra.
I hope Simon quits his judge role on American Idol to manage Susan more closely. She’ll keep himn from getting bored, and so will her audience. We aren’t all MTV watchers, so he has no idea what we might do next!
As for you, Mr. Morgan, I’d like you to take the advice of a BBC blogger, and turn this site into the British equivalent of the Huffington Post (my own daily online newspaper). Not identical, but with your own style. I’d rather read you than the Sun (gag) any day.
Best wishes to you, BGT, and their greatest protege, the singer, Susan Boyle.

I don’t blame BGT for what happened. Afterall this was the catalyst that she had been looking for.I do have a lot of angry feelings for what transpired between one performance and the other.
Won’t go there.
I love her dearly and i know there is a reason for everything even the painful.
IMHO the hype leading up to the final was incredible. There’s no way on earth she could not have taken that personally and taken it very hard.
There were a lot of other emotional things going on as well. Now i’ve heard some people at other sites say if she couldn’t handle it she should not have gotten into it.We’ll that’s nonsense. How does anyone see into the future?
Anyway,i feel very uneasy about all of this and as much as i’d love to hear her sing again and wish her a great career I just think her own well being is far more important.Again,i hope i’m wrong about these feelings. I also wondered about her relationship with some people and how much of her heart she had put into it? She’s a single woman, never been married and 47;PLUS she lost her parents…then this. I have the feeling that any time she might have gotten the impression that someone had deep feelings for her she might take it far more seriously than they were.
Nuff said.I hope for the best for her.I hope that she finds someone who truly cares for her.I hope that she recovers for her own benefit.
She’s in my prayers for now.

My! Such long notes that I don’t think Piers will have the time….
But I disagree with those of you who say that the offer of dinner with Susan was anything but real. Why are so many so cynical that you cannot believe Piers has emotions too? He felt for her, I’m sure, and this (to me) was his way of saying “Sorry I wrote you off at first, you’re a treat to know!”
No big conspiracy behind it, just one human reaching out to another.
And I agree with the poster who said that everyone should stop telling Susan what she should or should not do. She’s doing just fine all by herself. She is human and faced incredible pressure and still managed to warm the hearts of millions of people from all walks of life, the world over.
There is no way that she didn’t win. In fact SHE is probably bright enough to know that she didn’t need to win at that point, and was most likely happy for the young men that did.
Piers, I find your treatment of Susan to be gentlemanly, caring, and with honest concern.

Dear Piers,
The best thing that should happen to Susan is to have her released from the hospital immediately. She should be allowed to return home to get some much needed R&R and spend time with her cat Pebbles. It would not only be very theraputic but it would do wonders for her to just be in her familiar environment and with the people closest to her. She needs time to regroup and gain her confidence back and what better way to do it than in her own backyard!
Please consult with Simon about this…how does anyone really know how Susan really feels being confined in that hospital. What assurance do you or anyone else have of how she is being treated. I sure hope she is getting the rest she needs and hope she is NOT subjected to terms and conditions against her will or placed under heavy sedation. This would be extreme mental and emotional cruelty that could have an irreversible and long term effects on her state of well being for a long time to come. I’m certain this was NOT the dream she dreamed but rather a perfect setup to kill the dream!

Greetings to you Piers —
Another sincere thank you for standing up for Susan and being so very kind to her!
Many people have mentioned your wonderful expression during Susan’s first performance.
What I saw in your face was life-giving affirmation. Affirmation of a precious and genuine person sharing their God-given gift with the world. Affirmation of that inner person that came shining through so beautifully with her singing, smiles and gestures.
Through all these weeks since that first audition, you’ve been behind her unwaveringly, and your comments at the final could only be described as gallant; like something a grand hero in a movie would say. You have done very nobly in all of this, and in my books, you are “Sir Piers Morgan.”
The world is a little better for your good example.
May God bless you for what you have done and continue to do for our Susan. This whole story has endeared both of you to all of us.
There are three things I ask you to please tell Susan, which will help her, and I know she will listen to you:
1) Remind her of the example of Winston Churchill and what he said about never, ever giving up. They called him the British Bulldog. Encourage her to adopt his mindset.
2) Please put things in perspective for her; tell her to always keep in mind that her critics (and there will always be critics!) are but a very tiny fraction of people; they are far, far outnumbered by millions around the world who adore her for who she is, and wish her the very best!
3) Remind her of that great song, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”. Tell her to sing it often to herself, and to remember we are all behind her, and are praying for her!
All the best,
Carol

Piers,
Whatever is being paid to the Priory, it is obviously way too much because it took these “experts” 4 days to figure out Susan needs Pebbles after Ann and then many fans had already pointed it out.
Too bad she didn’t have Pebbles to console her after the Final instead of returning to a lonely hotel room while everyone else was partying.
Everyone seems to be BEHIND THE CURVE on every aspect of this sad saga. As one writer put it, they’re doing everything but just too late.
If Susan is singing and planning her album, why not let her spend a few hours a day, if she wants to, by recording in London while she would still be staying at the Priory. She would feel wonderful to have her album out there and selling well. It would rid her of any concerns about her career.

A New Piers Fan says
Just wanted to address some of the comments that say Susan should leave the clinic and go home now. I think that she should stay where she is until the doctors think she is well enough to leave. You wouldn’t go into a hospital to get half of your kidney removed if you needed your whole kidney removed. The doctors need to do everything they need to do with her so she can go on with her life.
Susan has super stardom awaiting her if she so chooses. She’s going to have to learn a lot of coping skills, how to take things with a grain of salt, how to find the happiness in a tough field of work, how to deal with disappointment, how to act in all situations, etc Obviously she is having some sort of issues, as she is in a psychiatric clinic. It’s not a secluded island for the tired. I highly doubt that she just needs some rest. If she did, she wouldn’t be where she is.
Susan’s mind and body are going to have to be in top form for what lies ahead of her. She is going from never holding a full tie job to the entertainment industry which can be very rigorous and mentally draining. She should stay at the clinic for as long as is needed to be in top form. Otherwise problems will keep arising and she will be miserable if she can’t deal with everything that is going to come her way. Just my two cents.

I wondered about that too.Depends on the understanding they had.Only THEY know.
“What? None of you noticed the mistakes she made when she sang?”
i’m getting tired of this. You mean to tell me that unless someone singe perfectly they aren’t talented enough? Get real. I’ve seen tons of acts over the years that can’t sing a lick and make it big time. These folks have the benefit of a studio where they dress it up. They’ve gotten by on image alone and very little talent.Want me to name names? Let’s start with Madonna and go down the line to Britney Spears among others.Sex sells.
How talented are these people? Not very.
And the trash they sing that passes for good “music.” THere are millions of us-whether Susan knows or not-that are waiting for her first CD.With training this woman has something to develop.I don’t know that anyone would be ‘perfect’ in 7 weeks. You think?
Give me a break. There have been tons of artists that don’t sing perfectly even the ones that are actually talented. If you don’t like the way she sings or performs do what i do with artists i don’t care for-don’t listen.
Move along. Besides Susan may not be coming back anytime soon. She may decide to go back to her life before all this. She may need more than a ‘rest’ as it seems to be reported.I’ve had the feeling she had a complete breakdown-not exhaustion. Not anxiety.A breakdown. Big diff.Nothing for her to be ashamed of.There’s been too much talk about this;”if she couldn’t handle then why did she get into it?”
Infuriating. How did she know? I’m willing to bet NOBODY knew.
Not BGT,not Piers, not her family, friends or fans.No matter what kind of life we have we do get thrown these curve balls and not every person gets through these. Here we had a woman who had no one and all the adulation ih the world is not going to make up for that. You can be adored by millions and feel alone in the world.i honestly think it was the press and her thinking taking second on BGT was a huge loss and a put down of her personally. The tumbling act.OMW.Maybe she did have more feelings for certain people than we thought. I won’t mention names here.Probably don’t have to.Now combine all that with her painful past.
Anyway,i do hope that her feelings weren’t toyed with even if was never intended to be hurtful.I too hope she pulls through.Hope she comes back.Hope for her first CD.More than that let’s let her have HER hopes. For instance, getting better may be what’s best for her and maybe NOT having a career would be best for her. That’s up to Susan and her doctors to decide.
We love her-we know she’s talented-we know she could go far her but she’s not “ours.”It’s altogether possible she will be happy just to get back to her old life in Scotland.
Let’s keep her in our prayers.

Please look at YouTube “Youngest Fan of Susan
Boyle” posted by karenyee35 I believe of Singapore.
She says:
Ethan is probably the youngest fan (at 2 and half years old) of Susan Boyle. He imitates Susan while watching her video on You Tube…. Everyday, he would ask for Susan’s video on my PC. He would say “Susan is so pretty.. I like her”
The video clip is priceless. Could someone please show it to Susan!!!

“can it POSSIBLY be true that youtube printed the wrong telephone number for voting for Susan? I presume that rumours will continue to fly but if this is true”
glad you brought that up.i heard it too but with all the rumors flying everywhere you really never know.
This one’s POSSIBLE though.Should be investigated.
Anyone want to take the time to look into it?
I also heard Piers Morgan giving an update on Susan saying it’s that she’s incredibly tired(believe it.can imagine),was ill a number of times but that she is getting better. I’m of the mind she needs privacy whether it’s just nervous exhaustion or a breakdown of some kind.
Either way.
I heard they got her her cat Pebbles. That was good news.I don’t think she’s going to be well in a few days. You’re talking about a lifetime of abuse from people as well as what happened recently from being in the public eye so much.
Wishing her well and hope someday someone takes that big leap with Susan. Both because she needs someone and i think herself she has a lot to give too.
She’s not ugly btw.i was tired of that story from the beginning. She was a tad frumpy looking at the first audition.Big whoopie.
she certainly wasn’t ‘frumpy’ looking at the final. I look frumpy today-don’t we all? It’s the diva’s that have to look stunning all the time.
Susan is NOT a diva.
I think that’s why we connect with her. She’s not like all the celebrities that parade themselves around all the time and then get bent out of shape cos the press is on them.Susan didn’t ASK for it.These guys live for it.I don’t think Susan is the least bit interested in fame or being recognized.
She’s more like an old friend or the lady next door but someone who touches your heart when she sings-she does have an awesome voice but never got the professional training that a lot of people have had.
And she didn’t try to sell herself with sex or a gimmick ..any of that.Just Susan singing.
I think she looked up to Elaine Page too.
I’ve blabbed enough here. Will keep Susan in prayers. It’s time for me to move along and shut up.
Sides Husband and son are going camping for a couple days. These boys love their fishing.

Be of good cheer. Susan has weathered the storm. The press has been silenced, out of sheer embarrassment. Her sneering critics have of necessity been forced to hang their heads in shame. Being partisan about something is one thing, destroying someone because of partiality is the stuff of cowards and not worthy of a noble human being. Ultimately, the truth will out. Talent cannot be denied. Our creative dreams and yearnings come from a Divine Source. Susan has the backing of the Universe in following her dream. The lyrics of “I Dreamed a Dream” though beautiful do not apply to Susan. “Now life has killed the dream I dreamed” is the story of a character in Victor Hugo’s wonderful story, “Les Misérables.” Hope is high and life worth living, the song says. Yes, Susan, those are the words for you. Aristotle, the great philosoper, aptly said, “Hope is a waking dream.” Susan’s is alive and well. Go Susan. We are but a fraction of your supporters.

when i was young all i wanted to do was sing. i unfortunatly didnt have the encouragement from my father. i was daddys girl and did what he said. i gave up my dream many years ago. there were no shows like there are today. times were different. i am 48 same as susan boyle and hearing her performance made me cry. the emotion she brought out in me was for her huge talent and strength for following her dream regardless of her age. i also cried for myself, for time gone by, time wasted. susan is an inspiration for me and hopefully for others, to never give up and to know its never too late. her coming in second isnt a defeat. she has touched so many hearts. the best is yet to come for her. i hope she gets to read the positive things that are being said about her and to use those as her strength to continue her dream. susan if your reading this-your a true talent and the heck with second place-your still a winner! follow your dream! never give up! best of luck in all you do. much love from a huge fan in America.

As an American, I am absolutely elated to hear that Susan Boyle has been honorably invited by President Obama to perform at our July 4th Celebration in Washington, DC. A commendation for a brave job terrifically done and so befitting courage in the free pursuit of an idyllic dream, which the birth of my nation represents. How great an opportunity for us here to personally salute her.
And the best “help” we could offer Ms. Boyle in build-up to that day and all the successful ones to follow would be to understand that Susan Boyle is not some fragile or challenged individual. It is my belief that quite the opposite is and always has been true. But, because of a minor and understandable “panic attack” {and not a breakdown}, the public has begun to treat her in the way that has held her back for most of her years.
From what I have read, Susan has always been reminded of something that supposedly occurred at birth, but did not have to really affect her life had it not been for people around her making it the case. The problem was not at birth. It was in the voices around her creating a negative where there deserved to be none to begin with. You hear something often enough and you begin to live it. This is the crime of it all.
We must not contribute to this misfortunate pattern, but, instead, help break it for her once and for all by making it a non-entity. No mention of it any longer.
Mr. Cowell and Mr. Morgan, I am sure, will help guide her professionally in these beginning steps, but, again, lets not obligate them unfairly to whatever the situation may be. Susan Boyle had the courage and the freedom to voluntarily enter a contest. She did so of her own free will, with clarity of mind. The scope of the anomoly which transpired could not have been foreseen by anyone and the BGT staff should not be held accountable in any way. Mr. Cowell and Mr. Morgan do not hold any personal obligation to Ms. Boyle other than what their personal choices should dictate, and whatever they decide should not be held against them. I am sure no one will cease to assist Susan Boyle. She is good company to be in both personally and professionally. May she be lucky enough to always have the good intent of the people around her, whoever they may be.
Just keep looking up, Ms. Boyle ~ and Welcome to the USA!

Hello again, Piers!
Looks like Susan did not win the show BGT because God gave her the biggest prize she may not have dreamed of - she won the whole world. Come to any place on the Earth - a huge city or a remote spot - and everybody knows Susan Boyle, and everywhere she is recognized and adored.
It’s a burden, yes. But let us remember that she had decided to take part in the show in memory of her dearest Mother. Can you imagine how much proud her Mother would be now? Can you imagine that she looks from Heavens and says, “This is my Susan! She did it, my sweet girl! She did it for me. Thank you, Susan!”
Susan Boyle is a very good devoted daughter to her parents, is she not?
If I met Susan, I would say,
“Wake up with a smile every morning, Susan! You’ve got a charming smile. Did you know that? We love you, Susan, because you are YOU - talented, independent, brave, warmhearted and absolutely charming.
You came to us in April like a first long-awaited bird after cold winter days. You melted our hearts. You see, we are not perfect. Only God can be perfect. But we are not that bad. And we want to become better. Forgive us and help us, Susan! Stay with us! Let it be!”
With a lot of thanks and hopes,

So Cats, your qualifications to catch Mistakes in Miss Boyle’s singing are?>>>>
You sound very young. Very very young. Go to a rock concert for two hours if you want pyrotechnics ( look up the word in the dictionary, dear)
I was a soprano musical theatre actress back in the day and I would have noticed mistakes. I noticed the note she missed in the semi - the first one- but not in the final. She sang every note in perfect pitch and with wonderful inflection of emotion. It is actually too painful to watch, really for me.
She hit the lower register notes way better than in her audition of the same piece, for example….but Cats, unless you are a broadway or classics type singer, you could not have seen that…
Too subtle over the screaming and belting that passes for music these days. Mistakes? none. Subdued performance from before, QUITE subdued, yes. That may have been due to extreme pressure to be too careful or may have been she was on a mild tranquilizer.
And Piers, it has been days since we have heard from you. We do not want medical details. We want things like the story that the Cat Pebbles may be coming ( or even there) and that She is making list of songs to do on her CD. I hate Xmas albums, and I do not own ONE. However, if Miss Boyle did a Christmas CD, I would buy it also. Imagine her doing, “Silent Night” or “Oh Holy Night” - would sell a billion copies. Love to you Susan.

It really doesn’t matter that Susan ‘lost’, except insofar as it affected her own feelings about letting her fans down; which, of course, she hasn’t done.
She will be the biggest winner of BGT in many ways: not the least for the simple raw courage she displayed in keeping going - virtually alone - when so much and so many were against her.
That courage is matched by her beautiful voice. The more we know of her, the better she looks.
Her brother Gerard who is I think early 50’s has been on different programs and he’s the one the doctors have talked to, and he talks to Susan every day. He speaks very well of her. He says the learning disability is new to him because she went to the same primary and secondary schools and has the same academic qualifications. She even plays the piano he says, which, he can’t. I did see a young girl weeks ago from her village say Susan taught her to play the piano. Go Susan!
Susan you won a long time ago. It’s time for you to rest and take a trip to USA. We are anxiously waiting for your CD and personal appearance on TV and all over these united states. Piers,
i truly do wish there were more to you and Susan than meets the eye.you seem like such a nice man.
I know BGT was not the problem for Susan. It’s not the problem for the kids that are on either BUT ..and here comes the butt perhaps an age requirement is in order.i don’t think SOME of these kids are ready for this kind of competition.I wonder that the parents of these kids let them go on or even PUSH them to go on.Kids should be left to BE kids.
As for Susan i hope that what i heard you say in interview is correct and that she is feeling better.
I also hear she was asked by our Pres to sing.
That’s quite the honor-too bad he’s a jerk.
Politics aside I think a lot of you and Susan both and i don’t see how the BGT can get blamed for something the media itself did. They’re looking for a scapegoat and another sensational story.
I wouldn’t give it to them.
Maybe the hype over the BGT final had a teeny part to play but whoda thunk the hype would get so high either? Anyway, i do blame the media more than anything for what happened.
Susan has a beautiful voice and while the second singing of I Dreamed A Dream was so sad compared to the first-she also topped herself.
Wishing her well. She’s in my prayers;as you are.

I’m thinking…maybe if Susan Boyle is going to be subjected to demeaning comments from newspapers and some of the British public, maybe her best route would be across the pond to America. It would be like a brand new start. No singer with the kind of talent she has should be treated the way she was. And she worked so hard on the finals and semi-finals. Just goes to show that there are vicious mean-spirited people in the world. She a true entertainer…not just a singer…she is funny, charming, gracious in defeat…actually, the thing about Susan is it’s the total package…the real Susan… that so many across the world fell in love with!

While it is true that millions of people genuinely feel love for Susan, this cannot compensate for what she mainly needs- a companion to love and to hold her. I know that there are men out there with the patience and understanding to get to really know her- and that they would find themselves privileged to be loved by her, and, in turn, reciprocate that love. It doesn’t matter if she might be mildly autistic (if she is, she is either undiagnosed or this is being held from the general public). She is a wonderful, loving human being who certainly deserves the right relationship, and her sense of humor will provide the right gentleman a lot of smiles. I hope that any career steps she chooses will not get in the way of this; a full-blown career in this business tends to destroy almost all relationships of its participants.
If this were a movie made for the LIFETIME TV channel, Piers would fall in love with Susan- but, unfortunately, it isn’t. If he is, indeed, in a friendship with her, it seems rather likely that his fiancee will not want this to continue, no matter how unlikely anything romantic could ever evolve from this. I hope Susan is realistic about this and that her alleged “crush” om Piers Amanda mentioned in a TV interview is an exaggeration.
Dear Susan, so many of us are praying for your welfare and happiness.

Dear Piers,
I have given you the benefit of the doubt and am ready to go on faith, that you have not been paying lip service to Susan only. You can’t be in her presence and not fall in love with her too. She is such a genuine soul, hard to resist, especially when she feels about you the way she does. Hope that she is over her anger at you, she looked like she was over it at the end of the last show, when she sent her usual kisses to you along with the dress hem lift.Only for you Piers!
Anyway my reason for writing is to ask you to pass on a little bit of encouragement to Susan for me please.Saw a comment above which stated that she is out of the clinic, marvellous! glad to hear that she is ready to move forward, hope that Pebbles is with her too, she needs her darling pet.
It would be really nice if you were the one to bring her to Susan, it would endear you to her even more.
Piers, I’m not only concerned about Susan’s well being yours is important too, did you have a nice rest? did some soul searching? hope so and may you make the right decision for the future.God Bless you too.
Someone said that she had lost a lot of weight due to all the stress before the show, hope she’s eating well now and sleeping well too.A lack of both can really do a number on our physical & emotional well being. Her electrolytes were probably way out of balance due to the added vomiting. But for our Susan the sky is the limit now!!
The message that I would like you to give to her is: To “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs:ch.3:5&6.
I have always loved this passage of scripture, once we follow it we can’t go wrong, for He is with us at all times. God Bless you Susan…
Piers I hope that it gives you comfort too, no matter how old we get, we will always need our Creator’s Guidance.
Wishing you and Susan God’s speed today and always…xxoo
A big fan
Sandra.

I am happy to read that Susan is out of the clinic, as she is feeling better. She is apparently in hiding somewhere in London. She is no longer safe from the press in her own home. I suspect it has probably something to do with Simon doing things discreetly to help Susan. Simon is a kind soul to protect her and pay for her stay in the clinic, which cannot be that cheap, he knows that he can get that money back 1000 fold when Susan starts selling her CDs. I know I will be in line to buy more than one copy. Good of Simon to do all that for Susan. Off course he will make a lot of money, but so would Susan. They need each other to make the money. Susan will be wealthy and Simon will be more filthy rich, and that is show business.
So Susan has accepted Obama’s invitation to sing on July 4th( I am in UK at that time, hope to watch it on UK tv), I have read. I think the Queen may extend the same invitation to Susan as it would be quite shameful for Britain if Susan sings for the U.S president, and not her own Queen in Britain. I have read that Prince Charles and Prince Harry are both fans.
I agree with “nouna” that we should just look forward instead of hashing the past. Lets all wait patiently for Susan’s many CDs to come. Let us hope that nobody use Susan anymore to promote their own pubilicity (I can think of one, but I won’t mention his name as I know he has many fans in this website). This website has given Susan’s fans to express their admiration and love for her.

As an avid Susan Boyle fan, just letting you know that I, along with many other fans, have blasted the UK tabloids for what they did to Susan. It was cruel, vicious, and certainly uncalled for. Why anyone would attack this sweet innocent lady is beyond my comprehension. They nearly destroyed their own national treasure - doesn’t make any sense whatsoever, and they’ve made a HUGE mistake in doing it. They will be forever vilified, and should be. God bless Simon for putting a stop to it and Piers for defendng her.
It is said that Susan feels she let her town down. Dear Susan, you put that town on the map! You didn’t let anyone down - your country let you down, and you’re too sweet to see that.

I am in thorough agreement with so many of the sentiments expressed here. I share the feeling of mystification at the shameful negativity directed against Susan and have scraped my mind to try to determine what supposed wrong she has committed. Is trying to follow a dream now a sin? Are people jealous of her talent and, now, success? Is it just fun sport to raise and then shoot down? I don’t get it.
I also agree there was no way Susan let down her town or country or anyone. For gracious sakes. I hope it’s not true that she felt that way. Sorry, but as lonnirose said, Susan has been the one who’s been let down.
I think that the notion that coming in second on a show like BGT is in any way “losing” is ridiculous. ALL the finalists are winners, not just Susan and Diversity. Maybe the show should be billed as Ten Winners and The Audience Pick or something.
Incidentally, and nothing against Diversity — they’re great — but when history looks back I suspect they may be just a footnote to the phenomenon that came about here.
And like Vicki said, if this were a movie and not real life, Susan and Piers would fall in love and get married. I’d love to see it, sure many of the posters here would. Piers is currently already spoken for though. Still, I love the thought of your taking her to dinner, Piers! Also, I am completely wowed by your white knight behavior in your speaking up for her.
And speaking of you, Gentleman Piers, we are looking forward to a new blog from you when you get an opportunity and, yes, would like to hear news of Susan you might be willing to share, like has she been reunited with Pebbles as has been reported, etc. Hope she knows of the millions of good wishes being sent her way.
Anyway, I’m glad to hear Susan is out, if that’s true, and that so many are concerned and looking after her. The important thing is her happiness and peace of mind — whether that includes returning to her quiet life in Scotland or a global touring singing career (or, perhaps, a bit of both)!
Susan, the world lies at your doorstep, should you choose to have it. Thank you for going to that audition. I only hope that you are glad you went, too, and if not right now, then soon, in the future you will be.
Wishing you all the best, sending love and admiration your way. Good luck to you in whatever you decide to do!!!

Piers, you were right - so was Simon and Amanda and the producers of BGT. Boy oh boy oh boy! I am gleeful. Susan is out of The Priory. After just 5 days. Validation of Susan, of you folks at BGT, and all of us who were stunned to hear she had been “taken” to The Priory. You said, “for a rest.” The Medical Officer at the Priory thought otherwise. He reminded everyone that it wasn’t a rest home. It wasn;t a spa either. It was a psychiatric hospital (as if he were plugging suc h a place!) Speaking of “weeks of care” there. He said that if she left in a few days, it would be because either the work had not been completed (whatever that meant), OR, she didn’t belong there in the first place. Well, now, it was the latter. Susan didn’t belong in a long-term psychiatric situation. SHE NEEDED A REST FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE! And why not? I’d have needed far longer than 5 days to recover from the unfair, unjust, and unwaranted vilification in the press. Not just the UK press either. The US press had some doing their bit on that score. So let’s not get anti-UK with the newspaper denigration of Susan.
I’d like to put in a request here. Let’s all have done with the “learning disabilities” bleat. When Susan said she suffered from them, I believe her. But look what she did with them!! She took care of her mother until her mother passed away recently. A caring mother, obviously, one who believed in Susan’s talent. Not content with that, Susan took singing lessons. She worked at her singing. She immersed herself in her beloved music. A triumph in itself.
The future is before her. At 48? Who the heck cares? The great artist Georgia O’Keefe was painting at 90. A 90+ lady climbed Annapurna, the second highest mountain in the Himalaya. Geez. At my age, there’s room for great hope. I paint. I paint well, too. I’m like Susan, I believe in my talent. I’ve sold lots of paintings, but must admit that I’ve been lazy, resting on my laurels. Susan has inspired me! Thank you, Susan.
Thank you Piers, Simon, Amanda, the BGT producers, and all you Brits like me who recognized sterling character when they finally saw it emerge from an appearance that indicated otherwise. Boy oh boy oh boy, where we all left with egg on our faces!
Good luck Susan. Good luck all of you at BGT. This is a wonderful story with a wonderful ending. Listen to your song, Susan, “And the world was a sing, and the song was exciting.” Go sing. Soar like a lark. xxxx

Dear Piers,
I am so happy, happy, happy…. Susan is home!!! thank God she is out of the clinic and may she never go there again. Please tell her that her loyal fans are absolutely thrilled for her.
It must have been quite an experience and I’m hoping it helped her in some way, so that the days were not wasted. To see her so happy with her arms out, with her loving gesture is precious, I am just beside myself with joy for her, she can go home to Pebbles and hopefully her sister is still there in London too.Oh Piers hold onto Susan don’t ever let her go… she needs you so much and you have been wonderful so far, don’t stop. Keep everyone away from her that can cause her any pain, she has had enough to last a life time. Please don’t let anyone be they friend or foe visit with Susan in her flat alone , I know it’s asking a lot but she is just too trusting and we know that most people can’t be trusted in this day & age, as much as we would like it to be different it’s the sad reality of life as we know it. Let them visit with her in public only, she can say it’s just one of her rules since she is a single woman at this time.Better yet Piersy baby, marry her and everyone will know that they will have you to deal with if they try anything with her.
Lord, I am so happy for her, I can jump for joy!
Please reassure her that she was magnificent throughout the whole bgt saga, she’s human and did what any of us would have done in the same set of circumstances, I think she was restrained actually, I might have socked someone a while back. Especially during the last week. She did not let anyone down, in fact she showed so much courage, it makes us love her even more. And that last performance! wow!! you should read the good comments with the video on Youtube, the trolls are there but in the minority and hopefully they will go away soon or just shut up.
Imagine what she could have done without the stress which she handled as well as could be expected. She would have blown the roof off of the building that night!!
Piers I am hoping that you both resolved the reason for her response to you and kissed and made up, I see that I’m not the only one that wishes the best in life for both of you, your other comments also show how wonderfully well you are together( I loved it when you stood up for her on that night during the song, the camera moved away too quickly.)
Maybe we can see something, that’s hard for you to see, hope you can see it SOON too.
Piers as a woman I’ll tell you that part of the reason for her pain that night was you, something made her stop believing that the dream of a life with you was possible and it tore her up inside. That’s the bigger dream, than her singing, it’s wonderful to be appreciated by the public for her great talent but at the end of the day, she needs to be able to express her love to the one who means the world to her. She has so much love to give as noted by the deep emotion she expresses in her music and her interactions with others, a very caring and warm hearted person.Maybe that’s why we are so drawn to her. There’s this person on the video site (the most recent one) he leaves one in no doubt of his strong feelings for her, I think he will marry her tomorrow if he could, I said to myself ( Piers has serious competition.)
Anyway better get off your site, I intended saying just a few words and I’m sure they are more than a few now.
Keep your Susan safe from everyone please…. I know it’s a tall task but you know that you are up to it, there’s no one else that even comes close.
How about a female companion her age, to be with her every day and she’ll have someone to talk to when needed.Make sure and check their background in great detail, lots of crooks out there.
Love to you both!
Glad you’re back Susan!! xxxxoooo
A big fan
Sandra.

What I found the most saddening of the finals was not that Susan did not win, {though i felt she was the winner} but that from everything that happened in her life she seemed to have lost her happiness to sing. The most endearing thing to me is that she was so happy to be herself and to do what seems she enjoys most, to share her talent with many. Too all of you that wanted to do damage to something so special, well you embarrass me. It is a sign of why we have so many with such low self-esteem. Maybe if we spent more time looking at the good people bring into this messed up world and less on the imperfect parts of them we could build people up rather than break people down.

Piers,
A really quick word to let you know that I was wrong about the site that guy was on, it’s the ‘Cry me a river’ recording from 1999 for a charity. It’s called the millenium CD. And his online name is azjeff1971. Check it out he is serious. He has left quite a few comments, if he is legit and you don’t want to spend your life with Susan, then see if she wants to find out more about him.Just a thought…… Susan’s fan Sandra.

I appreciate your comments on Susan Boyle’s performances and pressures. After hearing of the media coverage of her going to a mental hospital, I felt like I need to find a way to encourage her. You have encouraged her with hope in your comments saying that her dream was not killed. That she will go on to make an album. The song she sung was a very sad and hopeless song when you look at the words. But she needs to be given en
